The stupid explodes: obesity now a disability

Thai green curry chicken and fresh Vege.

2 secs get wok.

3 min heat wok and add oil.

6 minutes eat
Please tell me you factored in 10mins chopping up fresh chicken and fresh veg and not 2secs opening packet of awful pseudo-food.

Which coincidentally is what I did for dinner last night (the former, not the latter).

Ok. 3 minutes prep.

Not sure what you mean by pseudo food.

Just Thai green curry paste, crushed garlic and ginger. A piece of lemon grass and coconut cream.

You can add fish sauce or oyster, but prefer it without

To be fair. Snap frozen mixed vege isn't that bad if you can't be bothered cutting

Time is one of the most stupid excuses for eating crap food I have the misfortune of keep hearing

Why? Just because you have the time to cook healthful meals for yourself does it mean everyone does.
If it's that bad go to a takeaway that does roast dinners with vege. 2 minutes of them cutting.

Or go to a takeaway that is Chinese and cooks decent stuff

Or go to a takeaway that does kebabs. Fresh salad, carrot.

(Admittedly your meat might be cappier than ours)

It takes about 20 minutes 30 minutes at most to cook a decent feed.

Are you telling me you have never spent that watching tv?

Hey, don't let anyone convince you frozen veges are a bad thing. So little nutritional difference from fresh it's irrelevant.

Speed can be worth the small difference in taste. Plus, for some reason my kids are more likely to eat the frozen ones.

Know what you mean.

Always thought frozen peas are actually nicer

A bit of probably unwanted advice.

Buy a wok and a slower cooker.

Wok you can make a meal in about 20 minutes.

Slow cooker you can chuck in cheap cuts of meat and some rustic vege. Some stock and wine in the morning

Leave for 8 hours cooking while at work

Come home. Beautiful stew.

Add mop up sauce bread

I am not personally making excuses for my inability to cook nutritious meals and consume them. While I appreciate the advice, I do know how to cook healthfully, but I also realize that it is a large time commitment and that there have been times in my life where I I wasn't able to make such a commitment. I was fortunate that at those times I had other people to cook healthy food for me but not everyone is so fortunate.

While I get what your saying. I find it difficult to believe you don't have 1/2 hour

I never said that I didn't have time to cook. I was noting that some people who for instance are the sole caregivers for their children may not have time to cook even simple meals for them especially after a long day at work.

Those horrid veg in a jar of sauce things. Ugh.
As you say, frozen or pre-cut fresh in a bag - just as good. I prefer fresh 'cos they tend to stay crisper after cooking.
But nutritionally - absolutely nothing wrong with frozen veg.
I cut my own - because then you can control the choice of veg. The bagged ones rely heavily on too much cabbage to bulk it out, IMO.

And it seems fresher in taste and lighter on the digestion than even takeaway.
And yes, I'm a bit of a food/cooking snob, but curry etc, pastes are excellent. I've even found a Singapore Noodle paste that turns instant noodles into a meal as good as any takeaway.

That is the kind of apologetic crap that should be kicked straight to touch and never mentioned again - it is pure nonsense.

Meals can be pre-prepared and take 3 minutes to serve.

Unless you're living without electricity or plumbing, insufficient time is a cop-out in preparing nutritious and non-fattening food.

And for the record, I was a solo parent working 60-hour weeks at one time. Because time was so precious, I sure as hell didn't waste any of it - or my money - running around to buy fast food. My boy and I ate simple meat & veg meals cooked at home every night.

Agreed! .. I'm a single Dad with four kids ... My kids have been able to cook for themselves (and me) since they were 8 ... and I'm not taking about heating up pre made junk either.

Preparing food at home is a skill best learned early in life :) that's how my mom taught me ... I made full meals for a family of eight since I was 9 or 10 years old

If the kids are old enough to be in school ... And the mom worked all day? ... There should be a hot meal ready when she gets home
