Originally the right to bear arms was given as a means to fight an opressive government. To be able to fight an opressive government you need guns. Most weapons these days aren't what youd consider military weapons but a determined group of armed citizens can sure make an army miserable. Fifth columnists and such. I personally don't like the idea of not being armed with the current person in power.Personally, I'm of the opinion that there shouldn't be a right to bear arms.
Why is arming oneself with a potentially deadly weapon considered something that all Americans have a right to do? I don't see it as anything like the right to freedom of speech or assembly, or religion, or anything outlined in the UN Declaration of Human Rights. Why in America - as far as I know alone in the developed world - is gun ownership considered a right?
I use my guns for recreation. I don't kill anything I shoot cans, plastic bottles and whatever inanimate object I consider worthless. Note I said inanimate.
