"The reason aliens aren't doing crop circles anymore"

As for why aliens aren't doing crop circles any more, does that mean they accept all these have nothing to do with aliens?

From that link:

Have to admire just how intricate people make crop circles.

People who buy into crop circles as being the product of alien visitations also apparently believe that aliens have been visiting mankind since ancient times. If this is the case then why is it that crop circles only started appearing in the seventies?

And why did they go through such a clear evolution in such a short time? The first ones were just a single circle. Then we'd get a large circle flanked by 2 to 4 smaller ones. In the '80s, personal computers and fractal software became available and suddenly we were seeing fractal crop circles. Then they progressed to geometric shapes. Are we to believe the aliens needed to practice and work their way up to complex.

Easily explained by proponents. The aliens didn't need practice before becoming complex, earthlings needed to be taught their meaning.

Think of the simple circles as aliens teaching us our ABCs.

Yup, aliens could just as well have started with simple shapes and worked their way from there just like humans had to. Just that they have interstellar spaceships doesn't mean they have to excel at everything else, too;).

Just as good a question, I think, is why aliens? If you're going to invent a supernatural explanation, why not faeries? Leprechauns? Trolls? Elves? Gods? Ghosts? Spirit orbs? Oni? Witches? Pixies? Draugr?

As a matter of fact, leprechauns make a hundred times more sense since they're associated with crops and tall grass already, at least in the commercials:p.

And here I thought they stopped because they were all depressed. They spend so much time and travel so far to draw pretty circles for us, and all of a sudden some damn kids come along and start one-upping them with planks of wood and rope.

By golly...those aliens subliminally put those ideas in our heads!

Maybe they were the explanation of the 'lawn circles' in the croquet fields of old. We don't hear about them anymore because TPTB have redacted the photos.

They're always after me lucky charms!

This is a problem that nearly every form of woo completely fails to address. Even if evidence actually existed which showed something paranormal was really happening, their explanations still have nothing to do with anything. OK, so a medium can tell me things they couldn't possibly have known by any mundane means. Why should I believe that they're talking to the spirit of my dead uncle rather than talking to a demon, or aliens, or simply reading my mind? Religions in particular are full of warnings about exactly this sort of assumption - the devil, false prophets, witches, and so on - yet everyone always assumes that it's the word of god that they hear themselves. And people are often asked on this forum why we should accept their explanation of things rather than assuming it was fairies, and I have yet to see a single sensible response to the question.

The earliest report that the proponents seem to think was a report of a crop circle dates back to 1678 and the Devil was blamed. It was known then as The Mowing Devil. Note that this is not a classic crop circle, but a field that was cut down (mowed) in a circular pattern.

Never underestimate the woos ability for rationalisation though, as this pro-cc site's author explains.
I personally recall showing a friend a crop circle postcard in 1991, and asking him what he thought of it. Unfamiliar with crop circles, he suggested it was made by people using lawnmowers. The supposition that one might assume crop stems, when seen laying on the ground from afar, as having been cut down rather than pushed flat does not require a great leap of imagination.

Yes, that's right. Eye witness testimony proves your woo belief - up until it contradicts it, then it become unreliable, enabling you to justify your woo belief by reinterpretation of the "evidence".

Web lore seems to give 1966 as the time when UFOs/Aliens were first associated with crop circles. Named "saucer nests", from a story in Tully, Australia.

Imagine what complex ideas they'll be able to teach us in the future when we introduce them to pencils and paper.

Anyway I told them all who did the crop circles 1981 to 1884 around southampton.

They didn't want to listen.

It wasn't aliens.
