People who buy into crop circles as being the product of alien visitations also apparently believe that aliens have been visiting mankind since ancient times. If this is the case then why is it that crop circles only started appearing in the seventies?
Easily explained by proponents. The aliens didn't need practice before becoming complex, earthlings needed to be taught their meaning. And why did they go through such a clear evolution in such a short time? The first ones were just a single circle. Then we'd get a large circle flanked by 2 to 4 smaller ones. In the '80s, personal computers and fractal software became available and suddenly we were seeing fractal crop circles. Then they progressed to geometric shapes. Are we to believe the aliens needed to practice and work their way up to complex.

Yup, aliens could just as well have started with simple shapes and worked their way from there just like humans had to. Just that they have interstellar spaceships doesn't mean they have to excel at everything else, too.

Just as good a question, I think, is why aliens? If you're going to invent a supernatural explanation, why not faeries? Leprechauns? Trolls? Elves? Gods? Ghosts? Spirit orbs? Oni? Witches? Pixies? Draugr?

As a matter of fact, leprechauns make a hundred times more sense since they're associated with crops and tall grass already, at least in the commercials.
Have to admire just how intricate people make crop circles.
If that's true, maybe all you have to do is consume GMO products in order to ward off anal probing. Win!
Depending on your personal preferences, of course. That's the best argument against GM food I've ever heard.

The earliest report that the proponents seem to think was a report of a crop circle dates back to 1678 and the Devil was blamed. It was known then as The Mowing Devil. Note that this is not a classic crop circle, but a field that was cut down (mowed) in a circular pattern.Yup, aliens could just as well have started with simple shapes and worked their way from there just like humans had to. Think of the simple circles as aliens teaching us our ABCs.![]()
Imagine what complex ideas they'll be able to teach us in the future when we introduce them to pencils and paper.

Anyway I told them all who did the crop circles 1981 to 1884 around southampton.
They didn't want to listen.
It wasn't aliens.
It was someone with a time machine?
