The Realities of Mind Control - What can actually be done?

Would intoxicated suggestible human puppets be deemed as Mind Controlled?

This sounds very dark. However, I noticed that your quote comes from a conspiracy website.

While this is not necessarily a problem, the description provided by the Great Wiki is slightly less sinister.

I get the feeling that the effects of this drug are no so much obedience as that it makes you drowsy and disoriented.

The term 'mind control' has lost all of it's original meaning and seems now to be used to describe every manner of thing. So if by 'mind control' you mean drowsy and disoriented, I guess Scopolamine is a mind control drug.

Well not just drowsy and disoriented but as it states an intoxicated suggestible human puppet. A psychotic break with transient global amnesia and the loss of free will is not just drowsy and disoriented like you may get with an antihistamine. I agree with your guess that Scopolamine could be used as a mind control drug.

The site the snipet was lifted from is dubious which is why I did not reference it but I can reference its references for the claims it makes
drug experiments conducted by Victor H. Vogel and Harris Isbell of the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital, Lexington, KY, found that Demerol’s first cousin Scopolamine or hyoscine make patients psychotic.[19]

Scopolamine intoxication can be used as a model of transient global amnesia.[20]

From recent reports of the abuse of Scopolamine, the drug removes free will, effectively turning victims into suggestible human puppets.[21]

I am aware that Scopolamine is a powerful drug. I am not surprised that it could make people "psychotic". What I question is it's 'mind control' ability. You're aware that the website you linked to that talks about Scopolamine robbing people of their free will is not a news website and only contains reader submissions.
Disinfo.com, our web presence, collects the most shocking, unusual and quirkiest news articles, podcasts and videos on the web, most of which are submitted by the site’s visitors
The original source of this idea is - as I have said already - conspiracy websites.

There appears to be little scientific interest in scopolamine these days. I can find no published research on it since 2000.

When I was in high school, kids used to talk about how a substance called 'Spanish fly' would excite girls to the point where they risked death from vigorous masturbation. My understanding now is that the substance we were referring to is what people now call a date rape drug. You can understand the confusion that young men might have about this.

While it appears that Scopolamine has powerful effects and that it has been used during interrogation, the idea that it turns people into mindless automatons appears to be coming from conspiracy websites.

I agree the free will link is tenious and the reference is not a good one. The second reference does state
Scopolamine intoxication as a model of transient global amnesia.
Brain Cogn. 1991 Mar; 15(2): 236-45
Anterograde amnesia and submissive behavior found in patients intoxicated with scopolamine are analyzed.
Submissive behavior does not equate to a mindless automaton but its a start. Perhaps in collusion with the other tatics mentioned in the thread, a mindless automaton state might be achieved in select individuals, but thats CT from Cters and is not proven with evidence.
But I get the point about mind control being some abstract nonsensical CT dillusion.

"Submissive behavior" is a general term listed as a side effect for many medications. This dissertation
http://etd.lsu.edu/docs/available/etd-1114102-152724/unrestricted/LaRue_dis.pdf
lists it as a side effect of stimulant medication for ADHD
It appears to be one possible side effect for pscho-active medication and not something particularly an issue for Scopolamine. I suspect Scopolamine is used as an interrogation drug because it combines the submission with drowsiness and makes it easy to control the victim. I don't see anything powerful or unusual happening here.

This discussion is relevant to my interests.

I dislike the term "brainwashing" as it invokes images of people being strapped to giant machines while bleepy music music is played and various coloured lights flash on and off. Either that or brains being washed in a giant washing machine.

The problem with the terms "brainwashing" and "mind control" is that they are used widely by CTers that anyone using them becomes, in the minds of some at least, a CTer themselves.

Cult apologists, such as Eileen Barker at INFROM, dismiss the idea that brainwashing exists at all, a position that is very helpful for abusive cults and I am sure that cult leaders worldwide are very grateful to Barker for her papers on the subject.

IME however there are certain techniques, some well known and some esoteric, by which some people can exert immense control over some other people.

Obviously it would be highly irresponsible to provide a "how to" post on the more esoteric techniques on a public forum, however I think that a good place to start for a rationalist / sceptic would be the issue of "recovered memories" of sexual / satanic abuse.

I think that any rational person could consider the process that MPD/DID/SRA patients are subjected to as a form of extreme and abusive control and the word "brainwashing" is not completely out of place with regards to such activities at least IMO.

In the UK we recently had a number of criminal trials regarding the grooming, sexual exploitation and pimping out of under-age girls by groups of adult men.
At least one of the young girls had become so corrupted by the men that she effectively acted as a recruiter for them (she was referred to by the other victims as "Honey Monster"). The police investigating the case repeatedly used the word "brainwashing" to describe the process of grooming and corruption of the young girls. When the police used the word I suspect that people generally understood that the girls had been removed from their friends and families and subjected to an extreme form of behavioural modification and indoctrination, rather than say strapped to a chair with the bleepy sounds and the flashing lights.

My interests lie in criminal pseudo-spiritual networks (cults) and in organised trafficking in human beings, my special interest being where the two categories meet. Thus I have some interest and experience of this kind of thing.

re scopolamine, unfortunately it is in use by some criminal cults as well as by some other criminal networks. There was a case in Spain a couple of years ago when it was used - combined with torture- as a truth serum by drug dealers on an associate who they believed had stolen their drugs. Scopolamine is widely used by criminals in Columbia and, more recently, in Ecuador.

This documentary about scolpolamine / burundanga is sensationalist but also grounded in reality and includes interviews with people who have been robbed and otherwise taken advantage of while under the influence, as well as interviews with criminals who have used the drug to rob people.
