Sorry? Accusing people of being a possible pedophile is okay by you I assume? Without proof.
I dont have a vendetta, but it would be serve him right. If someone accused you of such a misdemeanour(sp?) you would let it drop I assume. If your lawyers said "Hey you know he might lose everything" then you would drop the case?

ETA: If it were me he was making this allegations about I would certainly want to see him lose everything. That better for your noble minds?

That assumes that Randi would sue him for libel. However it would be just as libel for the professor to call him a pedophile in a forum.

Have you discussed this with Randi? If he does not sue then you lose.

I have to agree, Azrael. Granted, Koenig's accusations against Randi tick me off, too. But, a) Koenig will never stop, because he thrives on the negative attention. Debating the issue with him is like debating the question of life with a fencepost; and b) it doesn't appear that Randi considers Koenig worthy of any attention at all...and stinging Randi into some kind of reply is obviously what Koenig is after.

I also doubt that Randi spares any concern about the opinions of the five or six people Koenig might convince. It's not as if Koenig presents effective, reasonable arguments that will have far reaching effect. He comes across as a total loon.

ETA: FWIW, I've met Jim Callahan on a number of occasions. He's not worth the effort, either. He's an intellectual bigot-completely prejudiced against acquiring knowledge and engaging in intelligent discussion. :D

(1) What makes you think he has anything to seize after a lawsuit?
(2) Do you think Randi wants to spend a year and legal fees chasing after a guy who is probably judgment-proof, anyway?
(3) Do you think a lawsuit might increase the publicity of this guy's garbage claims?


With all the above, I'd have to posit that Randi is in a better position to decide whether he wants to go after this guy, or not. You're just giving the guy Oxygen that he does not deserve.
 
Dave Koenig is just an instigator. A bigger problem is when forum administrators back him up, as happened on the Cafe.
Whether or not someone owns the site, if a moderator chooses to maintain an online community then he should be prepared to moderate it in a fair and balanced manner.
If said moderator doesn't want to hear what other people have to say then he should just have a website and not a forum.
I have supported the Cafe admin in the past, but this situation is just insane.

Steve Brooks likes to say that the Magic Cafe is like his home and he expects visitors to behave as if they were in his home. What nonsense. The Magic Cafe isn't his home. It a discussion board that attracts contributors from all over the world with a variety of beliefs and backgrounds, some of whom, he, or I for that matter, might never wish to have in our homes.

But there is a way to accommodate this diversity and provide a place for good conversation and idea exchange. Brooks and his crew don't understand the difference between moderating and censoring. Or, more likely they do, and their ideologies make them uncomfortable allowing all voices to be heard.
 
I've emailed Brooks his quote I posted here. I doubt a reply will be forthcoming but it may embarass him slightly.

As much as I despise Koenig, I think these guys are absolutely right. I read through some of Dave's work at SCEPCOP. That forum has about 60 members, and even the ones at the top appear to be turning on him. Let it go mate. You're only giving him the attention that he wants.

People – especially wootards – are all too willing to put up with censorship as long as what’s censored is something they hate or fear.
