Merged The Perry meltdown

I don't think the Dept of Energy's goal is job creation.
Obviously not; petroleum operations like building pipelines and drilling, do that.

Nor was the $535 million to Solyndra a good use of funds.

After you eliminate the DOEnergy does anything on a state by state level replace it or not?

I think he knows exactly what it does; defers pipelines, and fights ANWAR (and many other) drilling/fracking proposals.

Don't forget the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

I'm sure Perry could create some minimum wage jobs by dumping all that oil on the open market, hell he could probably just have Texans pump it right into the tanks of 4 door 4x4 diesel pick-up trucks.

There surely couldn't be any reason the US would need all that oil in an emergency.

Oil companies do all this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Department_of_Energy

The United States Department of Energy (DOE) is a Cabinet-level department of the United States government concerned with the United States' policies regarding energy and safety in handling nuclear material. Its responsibilities include the nation's nuclear weapons program, nuclear reactor production for the United States Navy, energy conservation, energy-related research, radioactive waste disposal, and domestic energy production. DOE also sponsors more basic and applied scientific research than any other US federal agency; most of this is funded through its system of United States Department of Energy National Laboratories.

I guess Perry is just one of those anti-nuclear power nuts...

lomiller beat me to it. AlBell, who is going to manage the nation's nuclear programs - including support for the military - when the DoE is toast? Further, I believe pipelines, drilling, etc. are handled by the Minerals Management Service which is part of the Department of the Interior.

ETA: The MMS is gone (probably that scandal) but the responsibilities are still with the DoI.

My take is that you can stick a toothpick in Rick Perry. He's done.

His wound was fatal, and was self-inflicted.

Instead of trolling the suckers for more money, he should be looking for an exit strategy.

No need. Just figure out a way to blame the Democrats for preventing you from doing it.

That's been their strategy for a while. Advocate some crazy nonsensical slash and burn policy that will never, ever work - to appeal to their fringe voters. Then when it doesn't happen, they get to blame the Democrats for preventing it.

You mean Perry is in favor of getting rid of the billions in tax breaks and subsidies the oil and natural gas industry enjoys? (Most of that is about supporting or encouraging drilling, pipelines and such.)

If I had to bet, I'd say he's busy calling the other candidates and seeing what his endorsement will get him.

It was fun!! But now I want to see him take on another topic! On the negative side, Bush (G2) was just as dumb and remember what happened to him.

Bush II is much much much smarter than Perry. That's how dumb Perry is.

What I'm wondering/hoping was if Perry's candidacy is so embarassing that we can finally dump him as governer of Texas. He has been an unmitigated disaster who has pandered to every moneyed interest and done nothing good for the state. The "jobs" he created were because of stimulus money, which he publicly decried and privately accepted. The jobs are McJobs with no future. He's the worst thing that has happened to Texas since Lee Harvey Oswald.

Ahh, American politicians can be so funny.. Ours just do politics and stuff.
