The Origami/Richard thread

Sure, done... quite a collection there now. Hmmm, 1.5 inches eh? Them's fighting words.....

I've done cranes with 20mm square paper, even did a chain of 20 linked 20mm square cranes, and was thinking of doing a 5mm square under a stereo microscope and arterial surgeon's tools.

I have a friend of mine who is an arterial surgeon and he told me about folding one of those 5mm square cranes as part of his final for one class. He borrowed a couple of my origami books to practice with the big pieces of paper first. Another time, he had to tie a variety knots inside a matchbox, without looking at the knot, and only a pair of forceps to tie it with.

Needless to say, I was rather impressed with his work.

VERY SOON! You will be able to bid on a Richard folded pigasus signed by both Richard and RANDI!!!!

Keep your eye on the auction section!!

Okay, I had to quit when I was near completion because my carpal tunnel really began to act up...

I used a Cain's Sugar Substitute packet (a Sweet N' Low knock off) and cut a 0.5" square out of the paper. It was readily available pink material but the interior of the paper had a thin waxy film (I assume so the sweetener won't stick) which made it hard to hold the piece, but it did allow me to do some sharp folds by allowing a crease when I ran my thumbnail down the fold.

And here I was thinking that whoever created a pigasus too small to see would be the winner...

WOW!!!!

pigasus has taken on some sort of life of its own.

the PIGASUS has powers to make people do some pretty interesting things.

Still, I can SEE that one!

oh like the penny too, which dog is that refering to?

Personally, I trust in Snoopy.

HA!! I knew he was using trick coins!! He uses 6 inch diameter pennies and folding regular sized pigasi!! But he didn't fool me...

Since folding the incrementally smaller and smaller pigasi were causing my carpal tunnel syndrome to introduce a new level of pain and incapacitation to my hand and wrist, I decided to go the other route and fold a "bigasus". I started with a 36 inch square piece of paper and folded it per the instructions. With the bigger model giving me more room to play with variation, I put an accordion fold into the wings and squared off the feet (for stability more than anything else).

I photographed the model at the teaching station in one of my computer labs here at school. I'm still using my PDA Phone to shoot the picture so it came it fuzzy, but regulars here should immediately recognize the images on the monitors. The pigasus also receives a coat of pink pixels courtesy of Photoshop.

Ha! You stole my idea, TheDoLittle! Now I have no motivation...

No, you just now have to go bigger... next unit of increment is 48 square inches!

You can also change materials. Try newsprint.

Since my 3D Studio Max class is tonight, I might make a CG pigasus.

...or do I need to start taking my meds again?!

oh meds definitely!

I like to do origami using different papers. I am horrible in Chinatown, taking lots of the local bargain newspaper that has just the right texture...

I plan to photocopy some pages from Randi's books and then fold some flying pigs!

Oh, thank you!! Someone really does love me out there!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that! Of course, I tend to use them for paper maché projects.

I plan to photocopy some pages from Randi's books and then fold some flying pigs!

I was thinking of one with a pic of Sylvia on the pig's hind quarter...
