The New Contract on America

Patrick inspired me to point out a few facts:

1) The USA is as good as it is by applying secular principles, resulting from its secular creation as a part of the enlightenment movement. This is neither speculation nor guesswork, it's simple, factual history. Those claiming otherwise are engaging in historical revisionism.

2) The USA got where it is today by a repeated, direct application of the scientific method, a descendent of the enlightenment movement, and as a result created a great deal of the technology that makes our lives as good as they are today. Those arguing otherwise can't see the computer in front of them and understand the implications.

3) The USA got where it is today by (mostly, unfortunately) ethical medical experiments that were not interfered with by ancient mythologies. Just look down the road, and think how many of the people you see (assuming you see any) would be there if we didn't have modern medicine.

Now:

a) The repugnican party wants to install religious principles in our government, completely and traitorously countermanding the intent and the wisdom of the founders.

b) The repugnican party supports, panders to, and aids and abets an all-out attack on the scientific method, in many ways from its covert support for the disguised religion that is creationism to direct attacks on scientific research that doesn't show what the politician of the day wants to hear.

c) Based purely on unproven, religious arguments, it has egregiously interferred in medical research, ensuring that our medical technology and understanding in the future will be worse than that of our most deadly enemies.

Therefore:

The republican party of the USA, as it presently stands, is a traitorous organization, every bit as pernacious and hurtful as the alleged acts of the communist party at its worst.

The only difference is that the republican party presently enjoys near-support of the population, and the indifference, stupidity, and unwillingness to vote on the part of the disaffected give this bunch of nation-destroying traitors the power to act.

ARREST THEM!!!!

I don't think so. Unlike how THEY do it, I know that political speech is protected.

They, on the other hand, have quite a serious record of arresting people for political speech during this campaign,eh?

Well then, perhaps we could taunt them?

You could vote them out, instead of behave like a bunch of people here who stated they would refuse to vote because both candidates are disgusting. It's true, both candidates are disgusting, but there are levels of disgusting, and levels of evil.

Slightly off topic, but why are both candidates "disgusting"? Sure, from a European viewpoint they are both right wing, but even I wouldn't characterize either as disgusting.

No, Danish, Kerry is the most liberal Senator in Congress. He's leftie!

Bush wants to add more religion into government - like the Taliban? Like Iran?

Bush also wants to arrest people who dissent with him or his platform - like Putin? Saddam?

Bush sure has some great role models.

But what if they are equally evil?

Don't misunderstand me. I would certainly prefer if Kelly was elected as he would definitely be the lesser of two evils.

My problem was with the term "disgusting". I don't see either candidate worthy of this characterization.

Well, Kerry doesn't have the guts to take on all of the Bush campaign's lies head-on.

Bush, well, do I really need to explain? He can't even be allowed to see dissent????

Then you already blew it when you didn't vote in the primary.

Well, then, slacker, why don't you run?

Or are you as evil as everyone else.

Or is it that you just need an excuse not to be a contributing citizen?

I am running! So make sure you vote for me!

The Patriot Act is a bell that cannot be unrung...

No matter who wins this election, they won't be able to resist the near absolute power it offers...and the Democrats have been just as candid about treating those who don't support them as 'enemies of America' as have the Republicans...

The straw man burns
Patriot act unmentioned!
Political speech.

Bush campaign demand.
Sign a loyalty promise!
Ticket! Compensate!

Rob Lister tells us
Compensation bad to do.
Is Bush arrested?

Nice debate tactic, hijack a thread to be about the patriot act, and then disappear. Very ethical, very forthright, and, yes, I'm being very sarcastic.

JJ, I appreciate the sentiment, but I bashed Patrick for resorting to ad hominems, and so to be fair I must also chide you for it... you have a serious argument to make, and you only reduce your own credibility by starting with terms like "repugnican".

There's no dialog here any more, gnome. A variety of "sincere" people have been allowed to repeatedly post attacks, and have effectively taken over the board.

And if you're worried about partisanship, as far as I'm concerned, it's "repugnicans" and "dummycraps". Me, I'm an ex-repugnican. No way I could be a dummycrap.

I'm sorry, the general tenor of dialog here has to rise, not just one or two people's versions.

If you want to be a civil-behavior cop, cop to Lister, his stalking, and his repeated, unresearched accusations that I'm lying, or look at some of Crimresearch's failed questions, etc.

I'm certainly aware that this little puddle is polluted. I think that there are much larger problems than I in this puddle.

In closing, I note that there is, effectively, no discussion of the OP happening here. I think the reason is simple, the OP is fact, and there's no way to squirm out, so even the apologists are hiding from this one.

I see both candidates and the vast majority of politicians as deserving of the word 'disgusting' or worse.

Mark Twain is reputed to have said like, 'Politics is a lot like sausage, you might like the end result but you don't want to see either one being made'

Mr. Twain was right on the money, in my opinion.
