Merged The muppets are commies?

Personally, I think there was less of a problem in re: Communism and more of a biology problem. Gary is a human and has a Muppet brother Walter. It is never said that Walter is adopted or they are stepbrothers, therefore, Gary and Walter's mom was banging a Muppet. What kind of message does this send? WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!?!?!?!

There was a radio interview with the guy that wrote it last week on NPR. He was asked about the human and Muppet brother thing and said that they deliberately did not address this issue.

There are mornings I wake up and feel like a limp piece of felt. So maybe I can identify with Walter.....

To a certain extent, I get that. On Phineas and Ferb they never address what happened to Phineas' dad and Ferb's mum. They are stepbrothers now and that's all that matters. But not explaining the reason Walter's an entirely different species is odd. My husband thought the first part of the movie, where they are showing Gary and Walter growing up, was creepy. Truthfully, while I enjoyed The Muppets, I liked Arthur Christmas better.

I mean this in a nice way, honest, but don't you think your husband might have been taking the movie just a bit too seriously?

There was a short lived show on US TV called "Greg the bunny". In that show the puppets were supposed to be real thinking beings, but still puppets. And they did not like to be called puppets. They would correct people and tell them they wanted to be called "Artificial Americans."

It must be EXHAUSTING to be that kind of conservative, finding a liberal message in everything. Can they even watch anything besides Fox News?

Took my kids to see it because Hugo was not playing in my area. I live within 10 miles of 4 16+ screen theaters, owned by different companies, and not one was playing Hugo. The manager at the one we went to said it might have had something to do with it not doing well at the test screenings and the studios would make more money with an older movie on the screen instead.

That's something that I could see Bob (of Chuck and Bob) on Soap doing.

I miss Soap. That was a funny show.

Well, it's one of the stories being covered by BBC Radio 5 this morning. I realise that it's by no means a majority view but this kind of thing (and the "Is the Tellytubby gay ?" question) doesn't help to bolster the credibility of the US right wing.

Haha, that's brilliant :D

Really, this whole obsession some Americans have with communism is bizarre. We all lived through the Cold War, but the Reds-Under-The-Bed thing does seem to be a uniquely American phenomenon.

do-dooo-do-doo-do
phenomenon?
do-dooo-do-doo
Phenomenon.

You missed the first thread, and the muppets are filthy filthy commies.

In defense of the Muppets, they're only communists in the sense that they are free-love hippie cultists and pool what little money they make from drug sales and prostitution and street crime. They didn't sit down and work out a proper economic or political theory of communism, Soviet-style. They simply fell into it as a consequence of their countercultural lifestyle.

Oh, that's not fair. There are muppets other than Bert and Ernie.
