Merged The muppets are commies?

The Swedish Chef - DEFINITELY a communist. Or at least a socialist Scandinavian.
Bork! Bork! Bjork!

To be fair, a lot of the Muppets really are brainless caricatures saying silly things. Pigs in Space, anyone?

Anyway, what muppets are they referring to? The ones on Sesame Street? The ones from the Muppet Show? The ones in the Muppet movies? The Muppet Babies?

If you follow the link in the OP, all will be revealed.

I take it the Animals of Farthing Woods are a Utopian libertarian manifesto, then. You've got a bunch of homeless animals who have had their home taken over because Might Makes Right, and with no one to look out for them but each other, they try to survive on a day-to-day basis by, for example, stealing food from the well-off.

And never forget the socialist sharing agenda of sesame street. If you want to use his toy you need to work hard and earn that toy yourself. Why think if they had traditional jobs for kids like hauling coal out of the mine, that would be a real education for them.

Bleurgh. The only thing that turns me off more than links to "Fox News" is links to articles that bitch about "Fox News".

This thread is about as far as I'll go, and that only because of the Muppets.

The villain in the new movie is an oil baron who wants to evict the muppets because first and foremost, he hates them, but also to get at the oil under their studio.

That's it. Simply the bad guy being a business owner is enough to make the muppets communists. The movie does not make an environmental or anti-business point. It isn't even critical of the oil industry in general, let alone capitalism.

EDIT: Oh, and I love the title of that article.

Kermit is indeed a transliteration of the word Commrade.

Well, that doesn't make sense. In order for this to be a communist scenario, the Muppets would have to start a rebellion, execute the oil baron, collectivize his oil operation, and put Animal in charge of it.

In the context of a cartoon fairy tale for children, I think we can safely assume that the evil oil baron is not intended to be a nuanced depiction of an individual at odds with his industry.

The guy's problem isn't that he's an evil oil baron, it's that he's incapable of laughter and therefore hates the Muppets. At the very end of the movie, a knock on the head allows him to laugh. He then has a change of heart, and gives the Muppets control of their studios back.

And I would just like to point out that the Muppets are owned by Disney, who also produced this film.

The day Disney releases a film attacking capitalism is the day that Walmart sponsores a Michael Moore flick.

1) Flick is a commie word
2) As clear as the teletubbies being gay, the muppets are filthy filthy commies
3) Mikey Moore clearly shops at walmart, why wouldn't they support a loyal prole.
