The Massei/Mignini Conspiracy Theory

I do wish you guys would make your mind up on this.
Earlier you wrote ..........

The details of this conspiracy are really hard to pin down - this 'movable feast' aspect is a feature of all good CT's as I noted in another thread ;)

ps The lamp is actually mentioned in Massei - how much weight the court gave it is open to Q , the 'embarrassment of riches' issue no doubt, but it was noted by the court.

Afraid I can't see the contradiction between the lamp having been left in the room accidentally by the police, and the prosecution never using it as evidence in Court. Can you point out where the 'conspiracy' comes in there - aside from conspiracy theorists on the web seeing the lamp as part of an elaborate clean-up, obviously? (the other two lights in the room apparently not being sufficient)

If you see that as a 'conspiracy', then I can only imagine what you think of the prosecution using Amanda's "missing" sweatshirt as evidence in Court to keep her in jail, only for the same sweatshirt to turn up lying on her bed where she said she left it. Now that's something which is admittedly a bit more difficult to put down to 'incompetence'...

Did the cops put it there and lie (by omission at best - planting evidence at worst, end result was the same) about it or not ?

Well, Postal officer Battistelli was apparently "economical with the actualite" when questioned about how far he went into Meredith's room, and what he may or may not have touched. So I think we can conclude that he has some form in this area.

ETA: just out of personal curiosity, how come you edit virtually every post you make on JREF, no matter how short?

Bleach receipts and Harry Potter books also spring to mind in this context....

Yeah but, No but

Was that a Yes or a No ?

Yeah but, No but that Battistelli is a liar anyway .. so there !

I have no idea. But I definitely think it can't be ruled out - that was my point.

I personally still on balance believe that Meredith borrowed Knox's lamp some time earlier that week, in order to have one desk lamp and one bedside lamp. We know that Knox was spending virtually all her time - especially her evenings and nights - at Sollecito's apartment, so presumably she wouldn't have missed a desk lamp all that much.

Either way, I definitely think that the lamp cannot have any probative worth against Knox or Sollecito - there are simply too many other perfectly feasible alternatives as to how Knox's lamp ended up in Meredith's room. And there the whole lamp issues starts and ends, in my opinion.

Your unfortunate inability to interpret my post correctly doesn't equal me changing my mind on this, platonov. :)

I take it you have a link to the police officers being asked whether they left the lamp in the room? I'd be interested to read that. This would, of course, be necessary if we were to conclude that they "lied" (bear in mind that Napoleoni was not one of the first officers on the scene ;)).

Of course, as LJ points out, Battistelli does have something of a reputation for being 'economical' with the truth. By the way, while we're on the subject, which conspiracy do you subscribe to - Battistelli lied about entering Meredith's room, or Luca lied about seeing him entering? A tricky one.

Definitely, maybe -- What's the Story

So the CT is withdrawn, kinda', and a whole new explanation never mentioned by AK is invented.

Excellent. :)

And 'bloody' bathroom photos and out of context 'I was there' statements used as evidence, and 'forgotten' recordings, and badly misinterpreted shoe prints... :p

I take it you subscribe to the conspiracy theory that Amanda and Raffaele had three lamps blazing down on the crime scene as they miraculously cleaned up all trace not only of themselves, but of the clean-up itself, leaving no trace of themselves as they did so? (that's called an unfalsifiable theory, btw, characteristic of a CT. No evidence of a clean-up? Why, that's because they cleaned it up!). No wonder they needed three lamps.

Of course, this explanation was never mentioned by the prosecution, and is the exclusive preserve of CTers like yourself on the web...

For some reason I had gotten the impression that the lamp was the only artificial light source in Knox's room.

Was this mistaken? Or should your sentence have read, "... presumably she wouldn't have missed a desk lamp the only light in her room aside from the window all that much."?

"Vicky Pollard & Liam Gallagher investigate"

If you ever make your mind up let me know.

I guess the 'Lamp Mystery' and its role in the CT isn't resolved & so there we must leave it for the moment.

OT
Here's an idea for a True Crime TV show - "Vicky Pollard & Liam Gallagher investigate"

Ah but the "lamp mystery" IS resolved: it's not of evidential value against Knox (or Sollecito).

PS I believe it's considered very "non-u" to point out one's own prior pop cultural references in a subsequent post. Best to have left them where they were and hope people figured the references out by themselves, eh? And anyhow, Noel Gallagher wrote the album titles to which you earlier referred, not his brother...

Knox's room had an overhead light - there's a light switch next to her bedroom door on the inside of the room.

There's a light switch next to the entry door into my apartment on the inside of the room. In fact there are two. (It's a duplex switch.)

One turns the outside light in the entry breezeway on and off. The other switches the power to a wall outlet on the opposite side of the room. There is no overhead light in the room, or in any of the living rooms of the other ~250 apartments in this complex. This includes the one, two, and three bedroom varieties. (Mrs. qg has complained bitterly and frequently about this. She wants to install a ceiling fan, and I don't want to have power cords stapled to the ceiling. :boggled:)

Just because a wall has a switch doesn't mean there is an overhead light to go with it.

Ooh - pardon me, it was only a throwaway line and the combination of the 2 was the point.

Anyway it had to be Liam. Noel was the smart one, Liam was the angry noisy one ;)

You were right first time - I'm surprised you are not more wary of LJ's 'facts' at this stage.

The overhead light didn't work.

Have you forgotten what Amanda said about the availability of natural light in her room or have you simply not been following the discussions?

I had even posted a picture of the light high on the wall between the door and closet in Amanda's room

I'm quite used to LJ's careful manipulation of language, but there isn't really any need to be "wary", anymore than there is to be wary of teenagers' transparent attempts at dissembling when they know they are caught out.

I just enjoy watching him wriggle on the hooks of his own devising. It's a rather low form of amusement, I admit, but it's better than most of what is offered on TV.
