The Marijuana Conspiracy

I once brought a hemp shirt while high on a rock festival, it is not that good for clothing.

Why confuse a no-brainer like legalising weed with some romantic ideas of returning to an outdated crop/technology?

So, where'd he go? This thread petered out 20 days ago. There's nothing in the notices in FM to say why he's suspended or even that he's suspended.

Do you think the CIA bagged him for letting on too much info? Or is there an OP over in some other organization's forum or chat room entitled, "Dude, where'd I park my thread?"

I once brought a hemp shirt while high on a rock festival, it is not that good for clothing.

It is a tough fabric - if I were farming around brambles or working in underbrush it is the sort of fabric I would want - if you remove all the modern fabrics that do the same job.

But for casual T-shirt wearing? Pretty bad for that.

The hemp-heads who claim that 'Hemp can be spin as fine as lace' need to take up trepanation or they are referring to a much older form of lace that feels more like string.

Yes, the resemblance to hemp rope it too close for anything other than outer clothing, and it appears to be beaten there too.

I have heard of uses in some kind of fibreboard, if it is viable we will no doubt hear about it.

So, to sum things up:
It isn't any good as weed, since it has a low THC value.
It's great as clothing, except for everything else out there.
It can be used to make paper, if you like coarse, crappy paper.

Wow! It really is da bomb! I'm going to grow some right now!

i once saw a hemp bikini at a shop at a rock fest. i could not imagine why anyone in their right mind would ever want to wear such a thing, although the hemp bags and wallets were kindof nice

It is entirely 'forbidden fruit' shock value. Once that goes away it all falls flat. Canada ended up with a big hemp glut trying to get in on that market, albeit the hemp-heads also promised lots of other industrial demand but didn't so anything to cause that beyond crying about it: "Mr Paper Making Factory Owner? Could you switch to using hemp because....ummmm...because we're from the hemp advocacy group...."

I have heard of uses in some kind of fibreboard, if it is viable we will no doubt hear about it.

It can be, but so can lots of other materials. It becomes a 'why bother' issue especially since there isn't exactly a fiberboard materials shortage.

With paper mills closing all over the place as the demand for newsprint goes down I cannot see why anyone would want to re-tool to use hemp let alone put the infrastructure in place to ensure a supply.

Curiously there doesn't seem to be any sort of widespread Hemlock Advocacy Group.

Seriously, all I had to do was read the front page of this thread and realize why I left this forum and only come back now and again.

Hemp should be legal to grow for many reasons, many of which have been posted on this thread, but the hyenas like to pounce on anything they view as out of the mainstream or "trutherlike" and have not even produced science to back it up.

No one (well, OK, I only read one page) stated why they think industrial hemp should be illegal, they just bashed on the OP.

So, why should it be illegal? It has no drug value. It is just a plant that can be used for lots of things. Oil from the seed, fiber from the plant, it is very useful. Yet you would cast it aside out of hand because some "hippie" said it might be useful.

that is a solid scientific argument. Come on people. And you wonder why this site has such a crap reputation. You are all about bashing rather than education and discussion.

I won't even bother going into the libertarian reasons why this is asinine, along with the drug war and such, although I will if you all want to be scientifically crushed on a subject I know well.

Let's be honest. The reason that hemp is illegal is because politicians are spineless twats who only think that a "tough on drugs" stance will get them re-elected. It has NOTHING to do with the merits of the plant, industrial or pharmaceutical.

Are you sure it was this tread?

Mostly I look past most other threads as the subjects are so asinine. 9/11, NWO, etc. It is easy to overlook the casual condescension on those threads because they are so ridiculous.

It is only when a subject of real merit pops up and the same attitude prevail that I am reminded that people here are less into intellectual exploration and more towards "your wrong, I'm right, nyah!" that I become annoyed.

There is ample evidence that hemp/marijuana was suppressed for political and ideological reasons rather than merit, but the "Just Say No" era has really poisoned the minds of people who should be (and many times are) better critical thinkers.

Its actually quite annoying/sad.

Maybe I would perk up if someone came up with a single reason that industrial hemp should still be illegal. Sadly, no reason exists, so the wait would be eternity.

I think everyone here would do well to step back and remember what this site should be about. Actual, reasoned arguments about the subject rather than rhetorical statements of ideology.

Edit:spelling

You will not find many here who think hemp should be illegal, industrial or smoking version.

What you see here are people who find the idea of arguing for a legalisation of smoking weed by praising the merits of industrial hemp ridiculous.

That doesn't seem to be the bent of this thread. After browsing a few more pages I see:

1. The hemp conspiracy is ludicrous (which flies in the face of recorded history). Many overblow the situation, but it is pretty clear through the history that a number of people, based on ideological and business principles, worked to make marijuana illegal. And following that act/acts in the 30's worked to keep it illegal mostly due to drug fearmongering.

2. and those that think that "Drugs are bad, m'kay".

Both arguments are not logically sound and can be dismissed with relative logical ease.

Edit: more spelling errors.

Edit again: I don't think marijuana should be legalized because it is the holy grail plant. I think it should be legalized:

1. Industrially, because there is no good reason for it not to be, as it has no drug value and high commercial value.

2. Pharmaceutically, because, based on libertarian principles, no drug should be illegal. The government has no right to tell me what I can or cannot put into my body.

MolBasser,
Will your superior condescending butt be around long enough to discuss this, or are you going to trudge off to share your self-righteous enlightenment with someone else?
I can't see wasting the time on it if you're going to just wander off, but you're taking a very selective view of what you're reading and you're not paying heed to what it is skeptics do, generally.
