The Germans will need to charge him soon (or the Portuguese or Brits*) or his defence lawyers will have a point of law to appeal on, re prejudice to his case in that how can he have a fair trial if everybody has been told he is a prolific serial child kidnapper and killer?

*AIUI it is not even within German jurisdiction.

What concerns me is that this guy might well have done it, but if they can't get enough evidence to charge him that will leave the field open to the conspiracy theorists accusing the parents of murder in perpetuity.

You're assuming that his being convicted would dissuade conspiracists from accusing the parents. You might want to rethink that assumption.

From a couple of days ago, but I don't see it in this thread. The German police appear to have notified Bruckner in 2013 that he was under suspicion, giving him plenty of time to dispose of any evidence.

According to a report in the news weekly Der Spiegel, Brückner received a letter from police in Braunschweig on 4 November 2013 inviting him to be interviewed as a witness in the “missing person case Madeleine McCann”.

Braunschweig police had sent the letter after noticing Brückner’s history of sexual offences following a routine request by the German Federal Office for Criminal Investigation.

Officers cited by Der Spiegel describe the letter as a mistake, saying such a high-profile case would have required investigators to gather more evidence before approaching a suspect. “This should not have happened and in no way complies with common procedure in such a delicate case,” said one.

Yes. So far I stand by all threads I started in this sub forum. You post no information I have seen to challenge me, I think this case looks strong against the suspect, but too soon for the noose I will concede.
I find it vanishingly unlikely the German police would be as pig ignorant as the Italians and the Portugese in these cases.

He was hardly fleeing, he was setting up in business, albeit an illegal one, of selling cannabis.

This is according to the Germans' own European Arrest Warrant paperwork.

The paperwork, obtained exclusively by The Sun, was used to hold paedophile Christian B when he fled to Italy in 2018.

It said he and a man named as Alexander Zaspel had been shipping drugs to the northern German holiday isle of Sylt.

Christian B used cash from the Algarve burglaries to buy two kilograms 8,000 Euro worth of marijuana from a source in Berlin and with Zaspel sold it for 10,000 Euro.

With the profit they bought a further eight kilograms of marijuana making another 16,000 Euro and the drugs were supplied to pubs and clubs on the German holiday island of Sylt popular with footballers and VIPs.

So, German police are reopening six cases of murder which seem to involve mutilation of the bodies from 1996 onwards. If he is 43 now, he would have been a serial killer as from the age of 24, were he the culprit.
