The Internet Becomes Sentient

I know what Easter eggs are, I talk about this being programmed into this notepad or Windows bug in the article. That was the first thing I thought about as I was falling into this.
And you fell for it hook, line and sinker.

I’m a bit curious, what other Easter eggs are you referring to. The first Easter egg is attributed to a video game was by Warren Robinett, where he hide his name in it. Mundane? I know the one about Grand Theft Auto hiding some sex, I know that there’s nudity in some Disney films. The “make love” ; “not war” one, there are a lot of Easter egg, on different kinds of things, DVD’s, Software, hardware, ROM’s. The MathWorks' MATLAB: has one that will answer questions with an ambiguous answer. These Easter eggs usually have to do with sex, humor, listing people’s names or inside jokes.
This one is mundane and now we know why, because it is simply a flaw in the program.

Do you forget what we are talking about here. We are talking about getting answers to the biggest homicide in US history, well besides maybe the killing of the American indigenous Indian.
What answers? I see no answers.

I’m sorry you feel that that is mundane. I don’t. If you feel that homocide is more mundane than a little T & A in a video game. I'm sorry
No, I am not talking about 9/11. I'm talking about a software bug that is fully understood. That will give the same characters to the same series of 4-3-3-5 letters and we know why. It can be predicted because the letters are mapped and we know why it is doing what it is doing. It's silly and stupid to suppose this is anything of significance.

Yes. I'm not joking.
That is truly unfortunate.

Yes it did.
Proof please. I have supplied you with the answer to why this is happening. Why do you persist in this?

Yes, I am running them through the translator to find clues and the facts of 911. That is how this started “bush hid the facts.
Translate this This api can break . note the 4-3-3-5 letter combination? What is happening is understood and the answer to any question that you have can be predicted simply by looking at the algorithm of the software.

There is nothing to see here.

I did spill the beans. It’s not playing games.
No, the idea of putting in 4-3-3-5 letter combinations into a program that is understood to have a flaw and expecting getting back random Chinese characters is a game. Not unlike Ouija board.

One starts with the premise that “bush hid the facts”.

Then you use the notepad thing to look for the facts.

The Translations give you answers to the questions.
No it doesn't, post a question and post an answer.

You look at them and say, “Wow, that’s interesting, the answers seem to relate to 911”
"Seem"?

And I agree, if someone knows nothing about the 911 truth movement, the translations might not make sense. But anyone that has looked into it will see the connection immediately.
Data mining, why would a sentient computer capable of reading English and Speaking Chinese speak in gibberish? Why can't the computer use properly formated grammer. And why Chinese? If it can read English it stands to reason that it can respond in English.

Not interested. I know how they do it. If you want to talk about the bible code, go talk to the people that came up with it.
No, It's been thoroughly debunked. Why would I talk to the people who believe in a silly game that can be replicated using War and Peace? Did god hide words in War and Peace?

Thanks for spending time with me. The most valuable thing on earth is your time. You can't ever get it back.
And I chose to spend my time exposing frauds or misguided individuals who refuse to look at facts.

The concept of something, other than a biological virus, being viral came into vogue just after the Internet became widely popular in the mid to late 1990s. An object, even a non-material object, is considered to be viral when it has the ability to spread copies of itself or change other similar objects to become more like itself when those objects are simply exposed to the viral object. This has become a common way to describe how thoughts, information and trends move into and through a human population. Memes are possibly the best example of viral objects.
And why do you think that this is important? What possible inference can one draw from the fact that a million or so credulous people are interested in a software bug that has a simple answer to it?

You said you read the story, right?

Go back and read the part that is in brown. Those are the questions that were answered paranormally.
1.) I see a silly game.
2.) I see 4-3-3-5 letter combinations that could be construed as questions.
3.) I see Chinese charachters that are supposed to be answers but it depends on interpretation.

Why does a computer that can read English and respond in Chinese speak gibberish?

Here is a test, the simplest answer is binary. Yes or no. Try this, ask the computer yes or no questions and see if it gives yes or no answers.

Sigh, as i have stated above, These stories were about computers interpeting facial expressions.
Sin,

I have been interested in AI since I was a child. I'm 45. I've been reading and studying AI for more than two decades. I follow the Leobner prize. I subscribe to AI magazine. I follow an AI forum. I consider myself educated and informed of the latest breakthroughs in AI and the history of AI and I have to say I can't for the life of me figure out just what the sam hell you are on about. What does the facial expression link have to do with a known, understood, explained and predictable software bug?

there is nothing sadder than pattern recognition looking for a pattern where none exists.

Well, I tried to sleep, I got into bed and looked at the ceiling. I couldn't sleep.

No, that's not what I meant. Speaking of 'the internet' in the way you are doing is too vague. You claim that 'the internet' is sentient, because when you thought of questions and then typed random stuff into a Chinese-to-English translator website, you got what you considered to be relevant answers. You need to be more specific. Websites and computers generally are (usually) deterministic. If I think of a different question, and then type the same random stuff into the same website, I'll get the same answers. If you claim that I would get different answers, then you must hypothesize that some part of the system is responding to your thoughts - simply saying it's 'the internet' isn't sufficiently specific. Do you mean your computer, Notepad, Windows, the remote website, one of the dozens of routers that the TCP/IP packets traveled through?

Got me, I haven't a clue. I consider it the internet because of the result. The information about who did 911 could not be held in my local computer, but I'm sure that some computers at one point held relevant information. Whether it was on bin Laden’s lap top as he sat in his cave, or the computers at NORAD, or the massive amount of computers in building seven. The wireless modem was involved, my computer was involved, the notepad bug was involved, Windows was involved, my impaired consciousness was involved, my hat was involved plus all the things you mention are involved. I'm saying internet because all these things had to come together and work in unison to achieve the results.

Technically, 'the internet' is simply a communications mechanism between two computers, analogous to the phone system. Websites send information to your computer via the internet, but neither they nor your computer are themselves 'the internet'. It's an important distinction.

Sure, but as I have pointed out, SETI uses the computer power of 5.2 million computers in its project. Maybe there is some sort of virtual consciousness that is riding piggy back on the internet infrastructure, I don't know, That's one of the reasons I came here.

I wasn't using 'ignorance' as an insult. It simply means a lack of knowledge. I'm ignorant on the subject of 15th century Flemish basket-weaving.

I understood that and is why I posted this:

I am completely ignorant as to how you could ask it, unless you are using it to try to slide an insult into the conversation. I will not accept that you would do that, so I am confused.

It seems you were ignorant of what I posted.

I do know a bit about computers and the internet, though.

Good, then help me figure out what the happened.

Another tip for you would be to reduce the size of the font on your website. It's very hard to read as it is, and apart from that, using huge fonts is a hallmark of children and fanatics.

I changed it to a 12 point size font, I think it's too small. What do you think?

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but you really need to take a step back. You've fallen headlong into the trap of seeing what you want to see. If you were honest about wanting to make sure what you're seeing is real, you'll try what I originally said

Please tell me what you originally said, I'm not sure what you mean.

- you started down this road because you saw a spooky connection between the Notepad-mangled phrase 'bush hid the facts' and the resulting English translation.

Yes.

- Now you've convinced yourself that simply thinking of a question and then typing a load of As into Notepad gives you a relevant answer.

Yes.

You should test this by thinking about a different question, and then typing *the same characters* into Notepad the second time. If you get the same answers, you'll know that 'the internet' is not reading your thoughts.

That's why I can't get the million dollars. This can be duplicated if you do the exact same things I did. But the answers have already been given and they are done. They are set in stone. I already checked that. It is in the article. If I think of a different question and enter one of the characters I have already used, it will give me the original result no matter what question I ask. I think this was a one time thing. The next event like this will be someone else that isn't expecting it either. And it won't be about "bush hid the facts".

More importantly, besides doing this test, it is very important that you should *want* to do this test. You should *want* to only believe in this if it's really true.

Hmmmm, this is a real problem, until you mentioned it, i had not once thought about doing it again. And now that you have brought it up, I don't want to do it again. The more time passes, the more uncomfortable I am about all this.

If you find yourself wanting to believe it even if it doesn't seem to be true, then you're in big trouble.

No, what is happening is that I want more and more not to believe it even though I know that it is true.

then you're in big trouble.

I am already so far into trouble about this it doesn't matter anymore.

Thanks Crispy Duck, this has been the most useful post I have received.

:)

FWIW, you don't even need the computer to get the "answers". You can play the paranormal game with paper and pencil. If you get the algorithm of Note Pad you can find the response to your 4-3-3-5 letter combination. The Chinese characters are mapped in the software. You can then use a Chinese translation dictionary (paper book) and get the very same answers. But then it wouldn't "seem" paranormal.

OK. I'm a little stuck for choice.
How about

‘Who did the wtc?’
A - rice; to husk rice; (ancient form of 禪) to sacrifice to heaven, the imperial power, as only the emperor was allowed to offer these sacrifices

or maybe

‘‘Who did it?’
| - rice; mountain, hill, peak; basket used in state worship

So, the WTC was destroyed by a grain of rice? That's the sort of thing I find hard to understand why anyone would read anything into it.

I'm not going to comment on this for twenty four hour to see if you can answer your own question. If it gets close to time being up, go ask a friend if they can figure out who Rice might be.

until I understand that the person concerned dabbles with recreational drugs. Then it makes more sense to me.

You can bring this up every post you make, makes not difference to me. That's the way it happened and I can't change it.

Oh no - I'm all for the truth. I think it's a great thing, and I thank you for your honesty. I also agree that this one thing may be a very important part of what 'happened'.

I am glad that you agree with me that Psychotropics may have had a part in this.

This latter part somehow vaguely reminds me of the red neck that gets drunk three nights a week and bitches about hippies smoking a joint just before they go see "Star Wars". then goes out and kills an innocent bystander while under the influence.

I have read the article. I seriously doubt that you understand what the hell you are talking about. This is a silly game of data mining. Why won't you post the questions and answers? They are as silly as they are stupid.

"Airz" WTF is "airz"

Why do the words need to fit the letter pattern of 4-3-3-5?
Comeon, we know why this program is doing this. I gave you the answer.

Sigh.

If it gets close to time being up, go ask a friend if they can figure out who Rice might be.
?

What you are doing is a very well understood game. It is called "data mining for correlations".

It works like this. Take a large set of variables and search through them until you find a correlation. Coincidences are to be expected. What would be truly amazing is if these coincidences never happened. You are doing what the bible code people are doing. You are data mining your evidence. You keep plugging in variations to your 4-3-3-5 letter combinations until you find something that could be construed as a correlation. There is none. It is a coincidence.

sinsanity, you have a bug in your pattern recognition software. You are seeing things that are not there.

I figured it out.

OMG, Sinsanity is right!

Here, try it out for yourself. I asked, "is Sinsanity an idiot?". Of course we know that a computer doesn't understand properly formated text so I had to follow the pattern and formated it so,

sins ani san idiot

Result,

"Worried thoughts"

Damn, I'm convinced.

Try it yourself.

Oh, this is fun,

Try is RandFan a genius?

rand fan isg enius

Results? Reflects! Reflection is a sign of inteligence. :) It likes me, the computer really likes me!

And you fell for it hook, line and sinker.

Sigh. I never said it was an Easter egg, you did. I said I knew what Easter eggs were.

Sigh, can anyone else help me out here. I truly wish you could understand what's going on here. There is a bug, we both know it, it exists, we both agree with that. Please can we move on the the real issue.

Translate this This api can break . note the 4-3-3-5 letter combination? What is happening is understood and the answer to any question that you have can be predicted simply by looking at the algorithm of the software.

I've seen Ouija boards, I have asked direct questions of Ouija boards. They have never answered a series of direct questions for me that made any sense.

No it doesn't, post a question and post an answer.

I don't have too, Chillzero already has, see above. See if you can make sense of the answer, Chillzero didn't.

"Seem"?

No it has not been debunked, you don't even understand what's going on here. You keep going off about the reason the bug happens, that's not what this is about. We both know why the bug does what it does. We both know that the bug exists. Please, can we move past this and talk about what is really happening here.

And I chose to spend my time exposing frauds or misguided individuals who refuse to look at facts.

Are you suggesting that I am a fraud or misguided? In my humble opinion you seem to have this bass ackwards.

Just a quick question, if you were one of the bishops judging that misguided and fraudulent Copernicus would you have sentenced him to death too?

And why do you think that this is important? What possible inference can one draw from the fact that a million or so credulous people are interested in a software bug that has a simple answer to it?

Because that is why this happened. This went viral. The internet caused this.
