The hunt for Raoul Moat

Yeah they have the tent and a letter left there for his ex. Twenty armoured cars are on the way fron NI as well 40 snipers from London. I am convinced he ia holed up in an outbuilding with a more accurate / powerful weapon than a shotgun-would explain the sort of back up requested.

Maybe, maybe not. He shot a police officer, and that always produces a huge amount of police response. Given that he is at large with at least one and probably two guns and a claimed remit that he'd like to shoot more, it's not surprising that they're throwing everything they can at him.

They've even sent in the SAS apparently. I bet he's dead chuffed.

Edit: and not to make light of the situation, but the longer it goes on the more embarrassing it gets for the Northumbrian Police. The Chief Constable is probably making enquiries about stationing a nuclear submarine off Druridge Bay "just in case".

I hope, for the sake of us all, he is not found in, around, or by a moat. The Sun's headline staff would surely explode.

Well it appears Mr Moat has upped the stakes now. Police are led to believe a threat to wider community now exists. Two more arrests made for aiding Moat. There is also a possibilty he now has access to a car.

It has just been reported on Radio 5 Live that he has contacted the police and threatened the general public.

Hopefully the daft sod stays in the fields. I live not too far from Rothbury especially when he may have a motor!

Anyone else get the feeling that Derrick Bird might have given this guy ideas?

Rolfe.

Not especially; apart from the fact that he's apparently using a shotgun I don't think there's much similarity in the cases. And since shotguns are the most numerous type of firearm in Britain I don't think there's much significance in that.

I wonder if he's specifically threatened the general public, or just some specific members of the public. Having heard, for example, that former friends are helping the police?

Still no sign of him, then.

The BBC said:
It is starting to dawn on everyone that although the police may get a breakthrough and find Moat in the next day or two, they equally may not and the Northumbria Police chief constable has accepted that it is possible it could be several weeks or even months before they find him.

The media is now bored, and fingers are starting to be pointed at supposed police ineptitude.

Ramboat will only surrender when he's ran out of writing paper.

Text I recieved today:

''Hi! I'm a sexy 19 year old blonde lookin 4 sum fun! My Mr Right should be a big, strong, ginger man, with a fiery temper and a jealous nature. Must love writing long letters and camping. if this sounds like you, contact armedresponse@northumberlandpolice.org.''-

According to reports Moat is currenlty surrounded on the outskirts of Rothbury with his own gun to his head. Hope the police are filming it for their own 'safety'- it doesn't look like he is going to walk out of it alive and a lot of people assume the police will kill him in revenge.

What a pointless situation.

Just watching the BBC now, with some poor woman trying to get in touch with her hysterical mother whose house overlooks the scene:

Jon Sopel said:
Can you put her on speakerphone?

The TV news really is getting more and more like Brass Eye with every passing day.

This media intrusion is frankly disgusting, i'd expect it from sky but the bbc!? The reporters are almost frothing at the mouth.

What channel are you on? I'm getting Eastenders or T in the Park. (Was watching A Place in the Sun on C4.)

Er, Rolfe suddenly remembers other people get this thing called digital, and News 24....

Rolfe also remembers you can watch that on the internet....

Rolfe.

Steven Nolan almost wet himself on BBC 5 live when he was handed over "live reporting on this breaking news...."

The man is a tool.
