The hunt for Raoul Moat

You can tell he's a killer because his eyes are so close together.

OK, not really, but damn he does have beady eyes!

Sometimes Britian seems almost quaint

From http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/england/tyne/10523318.stm

"People will see armed officers on the streets. This is a precautionary measure to protect and reassure them.
"Rest assured everything is being done to bring this to a conclusion."

It almost reads as though they are apologising to the general public for having armed officers in the area, and possibly scaring people

I did think that comment was phrased oddly - "the men with guns are there so that you don't worry so stop worrying about them".

I'm actually very relieved to see that picture, because from the way the BBC were fussing about not showing it I had imagined something much worse. There's a fair bit of blood but little real injury to be seen. Architect is right, perhaps there's more severe underlying damage, but my guess from looking at that would be that he'll recover OK so long as he's bright and responsive - which by all accounts he is. There's no sign of anything that might require plastic surgery, for example.

Rolfe.

They look to me like fairly small pellet wounds, something in the birdshot category, though it's been a while since I've seen them on humans.

Well, "It's OK, you're not in a Police state, there's just a nutter on the loose" doesn't run as well on the BBC.

It looks as though the town of Rothbury has been reopened, so he has either vanished or the police know exactly where he is and have the area contained. I have a feeling it may be the latter and the Police will make an arrest tonight when they have the advantage of night sights etc.

Although there have been local rumours of Moat being in Morpeth now. Hopefully he gets caught soon with no more shootings.

There's a £10,000 reward now, so maybe one of the friends who've posted about him being a 'top bloke' on his facebook wall will let the police know where he is.

Not to mention a name that wouldn't be out of place in a Coen Bros film.

It's gotta be a deed poll/pseudonym surely? Who the hell in the UK calls their child 'Raoul?'

Having said that, I met a guy recently who was called Che. He even wore the traditional Che Guevara t-shirt.

'Che' means something similar to the South American 'amigo' in Spain, closest thing in English is 'mate' or 'pal'.

I spoke to him about it and his parents had indeed named him after Guevara. He was as Janner as they come and when I spoke to him a bit about it, he neither knew, nor cared about, the history of his namesake.

Apparently he had a French mother.

That might explain it.

Somebody must be hiding him for him to stay free this long, hard to think he's been hiding in a storm drain all this time.

Last I heard on the news was that police had found the tent he had been hiding out in near Rothbury.

Yeah they have the tent and a letter left there for his ex. Twenty armoured cars are on the way fron NI as well 40 snipers from London. I am convinced he ia holed up in an outbuilding with a more accurate / powerful weapon than a shotgun-would explain the sort of back up requested.

It was only a matter time growing up in the West End of
Newcastle with a name like that!
