The Gospel

It is possible, He merely chooses not to. And because God is perfect, the temptation to lie is absolutely zero.

But apparently, he does it anyway. At least according to the Bible.
But that's not what kathy said! She said. . .

There are absolutely 2 things we know God himself cannot do, lie or sin! People lie, God doesn't!
"cannot", implying inability to, not "does not".

Why don't you listen when we tell you why?
Sling can I ask you a question? If it had not been for your terrible experience with your ex hubby do you think you would still choose to believe the way you do now? I'm just curious what it is deep inside that makes someone turn after they say they once were a believer?
No matter what you or anyone says here I know God loves each and every person alive. It's not good to see so many have no faith or trust in God.

Nope. He was just the last in a long string of abusers. I did mention to you the sexual molestation from ages 8 to 14, and the 12 years of peer abuse, otherwise known as "school?"

I'll say it for you again in small words:

I was born into a Christian family that reared me from birth to believe. So I did. But God never kept one of his promises. My prayers were never answered. God was cold, stony, and totally silent to me. He never protected nor helped me. I never experienced the joy, or the peace. I always wondered why God hated me, that he would let me be so tormented.

After 30 years of almost constant abuse, I left my former life behind. I still held onto belief, because I was afraid to disbelieve. But I stopped going to church, stopped praying, stopped doing everything....except I held onto that last shred of belief.

A few years ago, I learned more about logic and reason, and the last shred was finally gone.

Where you and I butt heads is in your insistence that I will be happier if I just find Jesus. You will not believe me when I say I am happy. You think I have some kind of grudge against God. My grudge is against people like you. There's no God to hold a grudge against. It wasn't God who hurt me, but people like you. I don't like people like you. I usually leave people like you alone, hoping you will do me the same favor.

When you don't, I fight back.

So keep telling me how happy I'll be with Jesus, and I'll just keep telling you how wrong you are. It's something to do.

Well Sling I am still so sorry you went through so much. It's never a good thing to see those painful things happening in someones life.
I'm sorry also that you find my statemnets about God intrusive. This is not what I am trying to convey to anyone. Perhaps I just think people could be happier with a life of faith than a life without it. Each of us decides I guess.
I just hope we can be friends even if you don't share my point of view. I am not trying to put you down just because I believe what I share.

Kathy, you have a long history in your posts of putting down people who don't share your faith.

If I seem like I'm coming across that way I am sorry and will work on softening my speech. I am rough around the edges I know but I am not trying to purposely be mean to anyone. I just have a very strong different opinion than an atheist! God has made himself so real to me I just can't keep it to myself!
I guess it's an automatic friction between the two opposing sides.

No it is not an automatic friction between opposing sides. You don't seem to get this no matter how much we tell you: We are not offended by Christians. We are not all athiests. We have many Christians, Jews, Buddhists and whatever else you can come up with on this board.

You elicited the friction by not listening to us tell you we do not want to hear you preaching.

That's an interesting opinion, since I referred to self-policing and mutual encouragement rather than policing others, but even so, I don't know what you've based it on.

Step up your majesty for your coronation...

... I crown you King of Passive-Aggression.

It's nice, really, but we can't.

It's your mission in life to bring people to Jesus, and I simply cannot and will not subject myself to all that this means. If you could manage to talk to me without ever trying to win me over in any way, shape, or form, it might--might--be possible. I do have Christian friends, and we never discuss religion. We get along quite well.

But I don't think you could do that, because you feel it too much.

Sorry. But thanks.

Perhaps if you actually READ what people like Slingblade and others have said, perhaps there would be far less friction. The main problem, though, is not that you hold a different opinion, it's that you're convinced it should be the ONLY opinion, and that our experiences, our lives, our convictions, should hold so little weight. You can soften your tone all you like: It will not change the reality that you choose to ignore the pain you're inflicting on others, and that your arrogance is like a ragged blade against bare flesh.

That you choose to ignore this tells us you're being purposely mean to others. If that's the example of Christianity you want to set, knock yourself out. Just keep in mind, it won't win you any friends here, especially from Christians, and definitely not from someone like Slingblade.

You know, Kathy, it's funny: I'll read a post from someone like jj, who's an atheist, and I can't help but sense a strong element of compassion from him. He's a very kind individual, both in person and on the board. Ditto people like Tim, Fowlsound, Zep, LostAngeles, CFLarsen, and tkingdoll. I count it a privalege to know these people, and others like them. Chances are, if you came here to learn, you might pick up on that. Instead, you come to preach.

Why is that, Kathy? Why do you insist on hitting everyone with this verbal barrage? Especially when it's been pointed out to you that your perpetuation of this is CRUEL?

:bump4

KK, I'd appreciate a consideration. of this post, if you would.

Thanks

But they already believe in God, and believe in Jesus as a messenger from God. Why do you insist that your particular rituals are the only way? Is your God so limited that He can't recognize different cultures and traditions?

Depending on what you mean by "recognize" (and leaving aside the potentially relevant distinction between "can't" and "doesn't"), I'd say that it doesn't logically follow that this constitutes a limitation.

I'd say this doesn't logically follow as intelligence and, in this particular case, I'm not interested in your prose.

No matter what you or anyone says here I know God loves each and every person alive.

How much did God love the many generations of folk who were born, lived, and died without ever hearing about the Christian God?

Or did the aboriginies and native american populations just pop into existance when they were "discovered?"

Er, thanks. I suppose, if you're crowning me, that you're the Archbishop of Passive-Aggression? Is there a ring to kiss?

What the heck? Have you read Dephi's posts? Have you seen his avatar? Does he look like the sort of dude that's too timid and unsure to be direct?
