I am opposed to Flag Protection Legislation as being a direct violation of Freedom Of Speech.
On the other hand, if you desecrate the flag, it has it's own automatic punishment. The vast majority of people in the US will be offended, and you lose whatever point you were trying to make . it is just a dumb move politically.
If it is your flag, you can do what you want with it. But if you tear down a flag that does not belong you, that is pure vandalism, as we have laws for that.
What amuses me is that some super patriots have no idea of the rules for displaying the flag, like you do not disply it after dark unless it is illuminated.

Believe it or not, I think we're in agreement on more than you think. Yes, it's pretty freaking pointless to burn a flag. Also, it would be bonkers to allow Fred Phelps (although Fred is dead now) and family to continue doing what they do and arrest people for flag burning. And the correct response to Freddie was to walk right in front of one of them, pause and look around in the distance like they aren't even there, and then keep walking (and yes, I have put my money where my mouth was on that one... twice). They aren't even worth a counter-protest, much less an arrest or even a press release. I was only there because they were protesting outside the art building while I was an art student at Emporia State.

But I do not condone burning the flag in order to provoke anyone. I mean... they can if they want, but I wouldn't suggest it. I just also find it bizarre that somehow I'm supposed to have a group identity as a veteran that should make me somehow especially maddened by it. Sorry. Does very little for me. I have no such button.
