The DeSantis gambit

DiSantis Da Mook doesn't care one bleeding damn about birthright or birthwrong or afterbirth. He backs these and other ugly ideas -- no, he mimes backing them -- to fire up the base he hopes to build. If you can make the lowest denominatorvolk feel good about themselves, and encourage them to despise law and decency and honesty, they'll march on Rome for you. He's seen it almost work, and he feels plenty confident about succeeding when he tries it for himself.
Pretty much this.

Both Cruz and Romney had parents who were American citizens so they weren't anchor babies. Cruz's mother was a US citizen and Romney's father was born to two US citizens, making him a citizen. Romney's mother was also a US citizen.

Yes, I was aware of that, but further explanation would have spoiled the joke!

I think the question here is not so much that those people would pass the test for citizenship, but that there would be a test. In the world DeSantis seems to envision, citizenship would be conditional on someone providing evidence to confirm it. Plenty of room for confusion and error and just plain meanness.

Ronny's favorable/unfavorable line graphs are starting to look like a alligator opening its mouth REALLY WIDE and not in a good way. The more we get to know the little bastard, the more people seem to hate him. He's unfavorable in a general election by about ten points. His best favorable was only ever 40 points and that was three months and five points ago.

And the latest is that De Santis is coming out with a campaign video that slams Trump for one of the least dreadful things he's done. And not because it was a lie, but because it sounded too much like the right thing. Shame on him.

They don't even try to hide their narrow minded, hateful bigotry anymore. It's become a point of pride for them. It wouldn't surprise me if they next promote transgender people having to wear a yellow T sewn on their clothing.

A fascist tyrant does not need a bunch of agencies. Far easier just to pronounce and tell the peasants to go **** themselves. As we speak the savvy Republicans are debating among themselves, why stick with Lear when we can have Coriolanus?

Actually, agencies and departments tend to explode like mushrooms in dictatorships including fascist ones, because those types of governments invariably end up being silos of petty dictatorships under the big boy, endlessly competing against each other in petty murderousness.

Point taken, though I think they're a different sort of agencies with a different chain of command.

"Next up DeSantis slams Trump for the unconviential way he decorated the White House at Christmas..."

Watching other GOP members trying to find a way to attack Trump without alienating any racists, sexists, homophobics, or democracy deniers is going to wind up getting hilarious isn't it?

Dumbest people on the planet feel betrayed:

The video was widely criticized, including by some Republicans. Richard Grenell, who served as Trump’s Acting Director of National Intelligence and is the country’s first openly gay cabinet member, described the video as “undeniably homophobic.” Log Cabin Republicans, a large, pro-LGBTQ GOP group, called the ad “divisive and desperate” and said it “ventured into homophobic territory.” And Sarah Longwell, a moderate Republican strategist, wrote on Twitter that “the consultants who think this kind of ‘running to Trump’s right’ is going to be effective should be sacked.”

Leopards, faces, etc

Several commentators noted Saturday that the ad’s tone and content reflected DeSantis’s campaign’s courting of the obsessions of young, very online right-wingers, including the so-called Groypers, led by white nationalist and Holocaust denier Nicholas Fuentes. “It's an ad made by Groypers for Groypers with all sorts of weird little shoutouts (Patrick Bateman, 300),” wrote The Nation’s Jeet Heer.

DeSantis campaign is huffing its own farts and doesn't realize that pandering to weirdo terminally online right wingers is alienating to pretty much every other demographic in this country.

And, of course, the evil little turd Rhonda Santis isn't to blame for his own stupid missteps:

DeSantis blames media for sagging poll numbers: ‘They’re going after me’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) blamed members of media outlets for his sagging poll numbers that have him far behind former President Trump for the lead for the 2024 Republican nomination.

DeSantis said during an interview on Fox News on Thursday that “corporate media” are focusing on him because they do not want him to win the nomination.

Right out of the Trump playbook, of course.

“Well, I think if you look at the people like the corporate media, who are they going after?” he said. “Who do they not want to be the nominee? They’re going after me.”

DeSantis also noted that Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has called on U.S. citizens to not vote for him, with the governor arguing that it was because “he knows who’ll be strong on the border and hold him accountable and the cartels.”

“So, I think if you look at all these people that are responsible for a lot of the ills in our society, they’re targeting me as the person they don’t want to see as the candidate,” he said.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with the fact that you're an evil, horrible little ******* who nobody likes, running around stumping for President while your home state is facing severe economic and climate issues, mostly of your own making. The only award you deserve is Biggest Douche in the Universe.

Right-wingers have a built in victim mentality.
