Nothing impacts trump. His campaign should have been dead in the water the second he mocked a disabled reporter back in 2015, and yet here we are. Some of his females supporters joked about wanting him to sexually assault them (Grab 'em by the pussy).

Attacking DeSantis with videos of him praising Fauci and bragging about Florida's early vaccine rollout should be a fairly straightforward way to kneecap him.

This. I think that attack ad of Trump saving DeSantis' career was devastating enough.



It only goes downhill from there so DeSantis needs to come out swinging here within the next few months or forever hold his peace.

DeSantis' "gun grabber" ad was pretty good, but didn't hit!

DeSantis is making a fundamental mistake in his stratify to win the Republican nomination. He will never be able to draw MAGA support away from Trump no matter how much he tries to pander to them.

The problem is that MAGA doesn't support Trump because he aligns with their beliefs, rather MAGA forms it's beliefs based on what Trump supports. It's therefor impossible to win over MAGA without complete alignment and support of Trump. IOW you are either a Trump supporter or you won't get MAGA support. Even if you parrot MAGA talking points all Trump needs to do is say something else and those talking points will no longer matter to MAGA supporters.

The end result is that DeSantis is driving away MAGA and the few remaining non-MAGA Republicans at the same time.

That's more or less how I see it too. It seems to me the smarter play would have been to bide his time and wait for Trump to actually exit the scene.

DeSantis was building up quite a bit of good will among the right wing base by implementing all his fascist policies, but it seems like he is squandering that by challenging their god-king. It will only end in him being utterly humiliated by Trump, and humiliation is unforgiveable in these circles.

Yeah, he's making a mistake. A better idea is to find ways to sabotage Trump from behind the scenes. If the Republicans were half smart they would help to dismantle Trump.
 
If you pardon the mixing of the metaphors I still don't know if Republicans are actually trying to win in any real political sense of the term or are still in full on troll burn it all down and giggle at everyone in pain mode, so I don't which I want the wind to blow yet and really scarred that I fully cant know until after the fact.

As reported by AFP yesterday, media forensics experts say the images, which the DeSantis ad passed off as photographs taken during Trump's presidency, have telltale signs of AI. Even non-experts may notice oddities, such as incomprehensible text on a sign that should say "White House" and "Washington."

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says it has completed its investigation into the transport of 49 migrants from San Antonio to Martha’s Vineyard last September by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration and filed criminal charges with the local district attorney. A statement from the sheriff’s office says it has filed several counts of unlawful restraint, both misdemeanors and felonies. The sheriff’s office didn’t name any individual suspects and didn’t specify when the investigation was turned over to the Bexar County district attorney.

Hopefully it results in indictments/convictions (If not against puddding fingers, at least against some of his underlings), and isn't just swept under the rug or get treated as just a publicity event.
