The DeSantis gambit

Trump Admits Republicans Don’t Even Know What ‘Woke’ Means

“I don’t like the term ‘woke,'” Trump said while answering questions from the audience, “because I hear the term ‘woke woke woke’ — it’s just a term they use, half the people can’t define it, they don’t know what it is.”

The former president then rambled about transgender athletes and claimed that if he were the coach of a girl’s basketball team he “would have the greatest team. I’d say ‘Lebron [James], would you like to become a woman?’ And I would go to another four or five guys and say we will be undefeated for many, many years.’ I will go down as the greatest coach in history.”

“It is so crazy — and that is all woke,” Trump said. “I guess they define that as woke, but that’s all woke.”

Perhaps it's just the boomer in him speaking out. Or just more stream-of-consciousness BS from the big goof. Perhaps an jab at Ron DeSantis?

I mean, I don't think he is "admitting" anything in the usual sense.

It's been said before and it will probably always hold true with Trump, but he doesn't say anything with any fear that thing X will contradict thing Y or that one thing he says will falsify anything else he says. To do that, he has to have at least some consideration for truth and falsity and logic. But of course he doesn't care, and neither do his supporters.

Some have predicted that Trump will actually try, in a wierd way, to pose as being more moderate on the social issues then De Santis.

Who have predicted that, specifically?

Just wondering if that's a reason for hope.

Though 'more moderate than DeSantis' can still mean right-wing.

I think this message is going to work well to peel off some support from Trump:
.
Desantis: “If the former president says, ‘I can slay the Deep State in 6 months,’ my question to him would be, well you already had 4 years, why didn’t you slay it then?”

I guess the pudding fingers thing would be seen as more moderate compared to DeSantis. It makes sense that Trump wants to tell the elderly that DeSantis will take away their Medicare and social security. Then Trump can be against it when he runs against the Democrats. His brain dead supporters will vote for whatever he is in favour of.

It's simpler than that: It's all about making Donny look good. So Trump says whatever he thinks will make him look good right now this minute. When that minute changes, so do Trump's answers.

Trump isn't in power so there is no way he can outdo DeSantis' authoritarian culture war antics so he is pretending there is no game board to play on.

One thing that might help derail DeSantis is that he has "flip flopped" on many issues based on what he thinks will win him support. When opponents start replaying videos of him doing things like praising Dr. Fauci, it might hurt him.

Maybe.

How many times was Trump presented with recordings or video that directly contradicted what he was saying at the moment? It didn't significantly impact him.

I don't really understand why "flip flopping" is supposed to be a bad thing. It's a representative system, elected officials should change their minds if that means getting more in line with the public (or at least their constituency). Constantly checking on the public opinion on what positions to take is a good thing, these people don't have any special way to divine the truth.

Considering our country is run by geriatrics it would be absolutely insane if any of these dinosaurs were reluctant to change their positions on issues over time. When Biden was coming of age it was still common to feed gay people to saber tooth tigers, but look how far we've come.

The right's feelings about the vaccine are somewhat complicated and definitely changed a lot over time.

There needs to be a way to get Trump to provoke DeSantis, prompting a strong response from DeSantis, which will trigger Trump to destroy him, which would allow Democrats to mop up what remains of Trump who has already alienated thousands if not millions of his former fans.

So far DeSantis has played it relatively well, but I'm kinda glad Trump is so thin-skinned. It doesn't take much to get him into attack mode.

Make Trump a teenager wearing a mask? A reporter asking a follow up question? Pudding Fingers react pretty strongly to those folks.

Maybe strap Trump to a chair, bound and gagged, and surrounded by Marines ready to kill him. Meatball Ron gets super tough in that situation. Especially after he leaves the room.

It isn't a bad thing when done for the right reasons. But being labeled as one who "flip flops" has sunk campaigns before even if the label is stupid.

It's a thing some groups do. They put a label on things to disparage those things regardless of what the label really means or even if it is really applicable. Quite often those groups can't even define what the label means, they just know it is bad!

As evidenced by MAGAs who are against CRT but haven't got a clue what it is.

What's complicated about, "Vaccine good. No! Wait! Vaccine BAD!!!"?

This "right" you speak of were instructed by their 'leaders' (and I use the term loosely), without a scintilla of plausible evidence, that the vaccine was an evil Leebral plot. For no other motive than it was a useful position to encourage to take votes away from their opponents.

How many people died needlessly because of their callous greed?
