The Death Penalty: Chinese style.

Obligatory disclaimer: The Daily Fail is not known for its accuracy or sense of journalistic integrity. Take the below with the caveat "assuming all is as it's being presented..."

You gotta wonder what's in the dumplings they're being fed.

How incredibly creepy. Ugh.

I think feeding condemned prisoners rationed amounts of ecstatcy leading up to their executions might have some merit.

Well, one did have some Mickey D's.

Her last meal: Ms Donggui... also has McDonalds fries, a burger and ice cream on

I've read China has more Kentucky Fried Chicken stores than the US.

Doc, and any other Americans willing to answer, how do feel about the Chinese executing these women and do you feel the same about the executions that take place in US prisons? This is not a dig at America or Americans; it is a genuine question.

Thanks.

You appear to be linking to the daily mail. Have you suffered from a recent traumatic head injury or is there a history of mental illness in your family?

Do you have any evidence of China saying the photos and the executions are false?

Do you believe these things couldn't happen in China for some reason?

I don't know of any Americans getting executed for dealing in drugs.

Do you like having information that has passed through the daily mail machine?

Actualy Ifeng probably aren't much of an improvement. On the basis that they have managed to operate long term in china and were able to get TV cameras in it is reasonable to suppose that thats the version of chinese executions that the chinese goverment wants you to see.

It is entirely possible that the reality isn't nearly so civilised.

It might be worth to notice that Chinese often laugh as a reaction to nervousness and discomfort.

Other than that, yes China has death penalty and is using it. If you are opposed to death penalty (like I am), this is not good. Apart from that, however, I have difficulty in seeing the alleged cruelty.

I suspect that the photos are staged, and that the pre-execution ritual in China differs substantially from what is presented in the accompanying story.

I have no opinion about Chinese executions. I do not believe I could care less how or how often the Chinese dispose of their convicts. I neither favor nor oppose a death sentence in principle. I oppose executions in the US so long as the chance of irreversable error remains so high.

I don't understand the new shoes given before the executions.

I would speculate it has more to do with the welfare of those handling the body after the execution, like guards and medical personnel who might do organ transplants. There was some press about Falun Gong members in China being killed and their organs being used for transplants. Two Canadian journalists wrote an article on this a few years ago.

The shoes, and indeed the whole attire... It could be either a dignity thing, or the idea that the convict's own clothes belong to the family and would be rendered unusable. - Or it could be that the prison inspector's brother sells this stuff .

At any rate, the retail value of the whole outfit, in China, is only a few dollars.

Yes, there are persistent rumours that the Chinese are harvesting organs from executed convicts. This might very well be true and makes some sense according to Chinese culture.

DOC, what's your problem with this?

That they are being executed at all?
That they are being executed for drug dealing?
Their treatment before execution?
Wasting new shoes?
Something else?

(For me it's the first)

Right. So, what is the point you're trying to make? We all already knew that China has the death penalty.
