House Oversight Committee Chairman
James Comer continues his 'shameless' hypocrisy:
Tapper asked Comer on Sunday if he cared more about the mishandling of classified documents when it relates to Democrats – a reference to the GOP response to Trump, whose Mar-a-Lago residence was searched by the FBI last summer after repeated attempts to retrieve classified documents.
“Absolutely not,” Comer responded. “Look, we still don’t know what type of documents President Trump had.”
Yes, we
do "know what type of documents President Trump had” :
“top secret,” “secret” and “confidential.”
“My concern is how there’s such a discrepancy in how former President Trump was treated by raiding Mar-a-Lago, by getting the security cameras, by taking pictures of documents on the floor. … That’s not equal treatment, and we’re very concerned and there’s a lack of trust here at the Department of Justice by House Republicans. That’s the outrage.”
Comer cannot be unaware of the fact that Mar a Lago was searched because Trump was not cooperating with the National Archives or the DOJ in returning the documents. MaL was not 'raided'; it was searched with a warrant because the DOJ correctly suspected Trump had more documents despite his lawyer's letter saying there were no more at MaL. If Biden and his lawyers had not cooperated and lied, they'd be given 'equal treatment' and be "raided", too.
His and other GOP distrust of the DOJ is pure projection due to Trump's weaponization of the DOJ during his administration.
Asked by Tapper on Sunday if he was accusing Biden or anyone on his team of breaking the law, Comer said, “We don’t know exactly yet whether they broke the law or not.”
But we do know Trump broke the law by intentionally keeping the documents and claiming they were his despite many requests to return them by the N. Archives and DOJ.
“I will accuse the Biden administration of not being transparent. Why didn’t we hear about this on November 2, when the first batch of classified documents were discovered?” he added. “Joe Biden used as his closing argument during the midterm elections that Republicans were a threat to democracy. And he cited the fact that President Trump mishandled the documents.”
No, Biden most certainly did
notsay that "Republicans were a threat to democracy." What he did say was that
MAGA and election-denying Republicans were a danger to democracy.
I've looked through several media reports on the Nov. 2 speech by Biden and have found no reference to Trump mishandling documents in it.
I also note that Comer refers to the
current president as "Joe Biden" but the
former president as "President Trump". That is no accident.
