The Biblical Realities of Hell

I threaten my dog with a belt when he doesn't listen, only because I used it once, it mostly scared him because he was a big fluff ball as a puppy, Couldn’t have him peeing in the house, he had no concept about in or out to do that at the time, but any way I never spanked him again, the threat is enough, and I would never spank him again, but he doesn't know that.:D

All I have to do now is point to my belly and he listens, he knows it unlatches there.
His fur was a giant pad, you couldn’t penetrate, I think it was more about reaching him from a distance when he thought he was safe.

God is comparable to a dog beater?

Think I'll stick to living my life morally and ethically because its my choice I don't need the superstitious carrot n stick routine I do it because its right. If people are so corrupt they need this spiritual terrorism to be human I feel sorry for them.

I was making a parable about threats. .
Gees you people are hard headed!
Do you punish your children or not?
Isn't the threat usally more than the punishment?
If we are like this then wouldn't it follow that our father is similar in that respect?

Well that's all good but you don't have the knowledge that he; God exists and wants a relationship with you.
Maybe that's a scary idea for most; to know there's more to this life than you can imagine.

You said you beat and threaten your dog - are you saying you do that to your kids too?

I understand the Christian hell. Its a lightless hole somehow filled with fire and crawling worms where god sends non christians, christian sinners, atheists etc to for all eternity. Glory Hallelulah.

Don't try to make it more than it is.
I only have to threaten my Dog when he wants to chew people up.
He would kill for me, that's scary.
Even though I spanked him one time, it hurt me more than him.
It was the only way to teach him that peeing in the house was a no no, it was more about marking his territory.
The very next day he went to the door and knew.
I was talking about punishment in general not beatings, don't you watch The Nanny?
I have never had to spank my child nor threaten with that.
She had morals from the beginning.
Which is highly unusual.
I got my arse whipped by the belt many times and as I look back and it was what worked in my instance at that time.
Hindsight is 20/20.
10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

11If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Ya want to see then you have to ask.

Hell is separation from God first, Darkness, the pit is something else, but in both places there will be others who are even more evil than you can imagine.

Do we in this life try to separate ourselves from the truly evil people?

I don't ever threaten my children with physical torture. A punishment is usually just the denial of a privilege. I can't imagine what it would be like to grow up in a household where a dad was constantly motioning toward his belt, like he was going to beat me with it. If you think that represents a loving or wise father, I can only say I'm sorry your childhood sucked so hard.

Waaah waah waaah. God just wants a relationship with you. If he wants a relationship with me, he should know where to find me. The fact is that there is no god out there looking to build relationships with people; it's all just nonsense that people spout to each other to feel that they're in some sort of special club. "Jesus loves me!" Wrong. He died 2000 years ago, and he never met you - how could he possibly love you?

Even though I spanked him one time, it hurt me more than him.
Wrong. That's a ridiculous platitude which is never true. The punishment hurts the victim. If it hurt you so bad, you wouldn't do it.
It was the only way to teach him that peeing in the house was a no no, it was more about marking his territory.
Wrong. That was the lazy way to teach your dog. Thousands of other dog owners (including me) have managed to train their dogs without physical punishment or threats.

I got my arse whipped by the belt many times and as I look back and it was what worked in my instance at that time.
As I said, I'm truly sorry that your childhood sucked so bad. Those weren't the actions of a loving parent, and they didn't hurt the parent more than they hurt you. Physical torture and threats of torture are not the actions of a perfectly loving parent, whether it's a biological parent or some fairy daddy in the sky.

There are other, better ways to train dogs without threats of violence.

In fact, they respond better to positive reinforcement, not negative threats.

I have trained a completely bonkers, aggressive, abused and rescued massive German shepherd dog in this manner.

He had every single bad habit that a dog can have, and I managed to end up with an obedient, faithful and loving animal.

Shame on you for threatening a puppy with violence.

Here's one main difference. Unlike humans who get whatever children they get, God supposedly created people however he wanted. So he had a choice between having children who happily do the right thing without being punished, or children who do the wrong thing and require punishment.

He chose to create the children that would need punishment. Nice guy.

I wonder the same thing.
I think the message in the O.T. was set straight in the N.T...

It is possible that he had to learn how to deal with us as we are this new creation, there would be unknowns about anything that is created.

I can see his frustration because of what we do especially to each other; I think we are the only ones that kill each other, besides lower primates.
Brains equal, sin, greed, lust, envy, ect...

Erm, all animals have brains.

Even insects, although it is a only a few fused ganglions.

I think you are forgetting about predator-prey interactions.

It isn't always just about the food either, killer whales have been know to 'play' with their food (seals).

Sometimes when I read Christians posts, I think it is a good thing they have the threat of eternal damnation to keep them in line.

Meh, blah, blah, blah, I think you are forgetting that most people haven't been atheists from birth.

I had a rather pleasant upbringing in a church that was really quite spiritual and had those wondrous moments of bliss, joy and various epiphanies.

Guess what, my gradual transition to atheism was even more pleasant, rewarding and more ethical.

I still have those wondrous moments of bliss, joy and even more epiphanies.

The arrogance that religion thinks it has the monopoly on people ascribing meaning to their life is one of the things that I find quite repulsive about religion.

The religion you describe is 'be nice to your neighbours for dummies' otherwise big sky daddy is going to beat you with his belt.

Pathetic.

Maybe you should rephrase this. Most Americans are atheists until they are taught about religion. Most people in general would include the world.

For what it's worth, both of my children have choosen atheism, since childbirth.

Most children are raised within some religion and baptised/christened from and early age.

You are correct that children do not really have any belief until they are taught, but our cultures have also been strongly shaped by religion.

It does permeate everything.

"The only ones?"

You mean, out of all the other animals, only primates kill each other?

Right.

Sharks eat kelp.

Jesus fapped*, what an ignorant idea.

*("Jesus wept" no longer does it for me as an expletive.)
