The angry Atheists poll

Are you an angry Atheist?

  • Total voters

I'm an atheist, and am generally amused. The only time I get angry is when I see or hear about or think about children having their minds and or bodies mutilated by religion, and there is nothing I can do about it.

I'm not an atheist, I'm your worst enemy, a pantheist, I think everyones right except me
:D

i get angry when reading our most important document, our constitution and it also talks about God.

I'm an aroused atheist. I find religion naughty.

You're a naughty religion, aren't you? You want to spank me? You want me to punish for eternity? Yeah, I bet you do. You naughty religion. Make unsupported assertions about the existence and nature of god. Yeah. just like that. Make a first cause argument. ohh. you are naughty. Now tell me how cultural practices and traditions are, in fact, divinely inspired and not a merely a collection of behaviors evolved to aide group cohesion and sense of belonging. Yes! Punish me, I've been a bad boy.

:D Nominated this naughty post.

Correction, I'm an agnostic and I'm PISSED!!!!

I can't believe I got the sugar-free Juice again!

So what is my attitude? Well ambivalent comes to mind: live and let live. Indifference because I'd rather spend my time on other things and resistive to control by others

There wasn't an option for me. I am interested in people, and one of more telling aspects of a person is what religion they follow, and how much of it they hold to be true (such as the "cafeteria Christians"). Some religious concepts I find puzzling, some amusing, some inspirational (as in, if only people would act that way), and some outright horrific.

Your post would have been a poll option I'd have chosen.

I didn't vote because I wouldn't consider myself an 'angry' atheist. Bitter is probably a better word.

I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness and it had a detrimental impact on my life from ruining my chances at obtaining a higher education to tearing apart my family. Extracting myself from that faith left mental scars on me that I will carry for a lifetime.

While attending my sister's memorial recently, several of my former JW 'friends' actually said things to me like "Come back to us...don't you want to see your sister again someday?" It was all I could do to turn around and leave. The bastards essentially chased me away from my own beloved sister's funeral, robbing me of a chance to grieve in peace. Was I angry that night? I sure as hell was. But I don't want to live my life that way and I don't.

Which is why we give you the sugar-free juice!

I'm angry but I'm not an atheist, and I try to work on my anger issues as much as possible. I listen to a lot of classical music, although sometimes that makes me angry too . . . like when Elmer Fudd kills Bugs Bunny.

Why did it ruin your chances at higher education?

I get angry about some things related to religion, but mostly I find religion to be just another absurdity to laugh at, along with pretty much everything else.

Why did it ruin your chances at higher education?

Because JW's perpetually believe that the end is right around the corner. They've been believing this for as long as they've been around. As a result they actually discourage their members from wasting time and money on a higher education when there's so much preaching to be done. I of course bought the whole line having been indoctrinated from birth. My parents were somewhat moderate and gave their blessing for me to attend a technical school but not university. Even there though, I finally came into contact with people who would shake my belief system and start my 15 year transition to atheism. I feel like I'm an intelligent person whose potential was partially squandered by that religion.

Even owning a computer was frowned upon for a time. Their 'Awake' magazine had an article about how computers were a waste of time and really couldn't do anything that couldn't be done with a pencil and paper. Its ironic now that they release all of their publications on CD-Rom.

Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense. I'm sorry that you feel you haven't lived up to your potential because of your previous belief system. That's truly a depressing notion.
