Wow, Im due to leave for Cairo, Egypt in two weeks for a major meeting, I have seven majro red-flags to clear off my desk and..I spend an hour reading this thread--thanks a lot, folks!
Seriously, for any LC'ers reading this (to catch up with threads that may have been deleted in LC, a couple of points--IMHO as always:
(1). Russ Pickering is not a member here (at least he wasn't the last time I looked) and any respect we extend to him is because he has shown the ability to write coherently, expesss his opinions well, do adequate research to back his opinions, and can carry on a civil conversation--skills few LC'ers who have come here have shown. We would welcome the chance to have a civil conversation--which DOES NOT mean we will agree with Russ; he still faces a group of skeptics here.
(2). Think a second. The LC place that I first got to was rather rowdy and could be quick to ban, but in general tolerated a large variety of opinions and even the occassional JREF 'er or two, as long as they weren't overly snide (I like to think I was with reasonable bounds). Then came JohndoeX--and look what you have now. Just food for thought....
I'll make a prediction; weedwacker, be he JDX or not (I personally tend to doubt it, he writes like a 14-y.o.) will not be replying for a few days when the mods get a load of several of his posts on page 3 of this thread...
Wow...and some Forumites of long-standing thought the JREF Forums were destined to go down during the Great Xouper controvery (for all you newbies, you'll have to dig back a couple of years in the archives for the great Xouper Wars) or when Hal was going to move the Community Forums elsewhere...they need to read this thread and see what a real Forum Meltdown looks like!!
