Well it appears that Texas has it's very own Tea Party Senator, Ted Cruz. True, the election is in November, but this is Texas. The Republican always wins. And the Tea Party, to their credit, did a great job of turning out the vote. I stood in line for over an hour just for a run-off election. Whatever you say about the Tea Party, you got to admit they are persuading citizens to do their civic duty.

But what does this really mean? The two candidates, Cruz and Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, were so similar on issues, they could have popped out of the womb in succession. Nevertheless, the campaign was massively funded and as deep in mud as a wallow for pig/giraffe hybrids. The sad thing (to me) was that they were both badmouthing each other as much as they could with stuff that made me want to vote against the badmouther.

"He wants to educate immigrants."
"Well he wants to keep Planned Parenthood open."
"Well HE wants to teach evolution in schools."
"Well HE once said something non-insulting about Obama."
"Well HE wants to raise teacher's pay."
"Well I hate gays much more than he does."
"That's a LIE. I hate gays more than Hitler!"

It was like a contest to see who could be the most miserable, greedy, hateful bastard.

As for the results, it actually does make some difference. Though their policies were practically identical, Cruz, being tied to the teabag string, is more likely to be obstructionist and intransigent in Congress, leading to further gridlock. The state would have been a little better with Dewhurst, who as Lt. Governor, the most powerful elected position in Texas, has experience working across the aisle. Both candidates lined up powerful supporters, with the crazies (Palin, Santorum, Arpaio) lining up behind Cruz and the idiots (Perry, Huckabee and most of the Washington crowd) endorsing Dewhurst.

Now I'm really worried about Texas. I'm beginning to think that we could actually do worse than Rick Perry for governor. I'm not sure how, but recent trends seem to indicate a further descent into abject stupidity. How bad could it get? Well, Texas is one of the few states where Sarah Palin could easily get elected.

Quite true. A horrific spectacle.

It is a sad day, but it is only the most recent in a string of sad days in Texas.

While crook may trump fool, fool still trumps maniac.

Is there a write-in option?

one more reason that third world abomination needs to be destroyed.

Well, personally, I couldn't have made up my mind unless they discussed their positions on a gay Hitler.

I admit- I dislike the GOP establishment so much that my initial reaction is to cheer when their preferred candidate is defeated by an upstart. I don't think we'll have the next Henry Clay in the Senate, but the sky isn't falling either.

True enough that one insane Senator cannot bring down the nation, but if he were my Senator I would be upset.

Mark Kirk is usually seen as very far right wing, and he is, but I'll take him over this nutjob any day.

All looking fine to me!

Moving right along here in Texas!

“With a strong, hard-working ally in Ted Cruz, we will work to pass a balanced budget amendment, remove the federal government’s boot off the neck of our small businesses, and repeal-and-replace ObamaCare,” said Cornyn, R-Texas, who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee. “I will do everything I can to help elect Ted Cruz in November and look forward to working with him next year.”

Democrats have little-to-no chance of pulling an upset against Cruz....

I used to live in Georgia where I was represented by 9-11 conspiracy theorist Cynthia McKinney. Somehow I can't get very worked up about Ted Cruz.

Texas needs no defending, but I am reminded of the old saying, "Never wrestle with a pig, you will just get muddy and the pig enjoys it."

Is Cruz a Christian Zionist?

Is Cruz a Christian Zionist?

From the ads I've been swamped with lately, I think he is a Washington trial lawyer who defends Chinese patent thieves.

But I heard this from a disreputable source, the Texas lieutenant governor. ;)

I believe that was Will Rogers. HE would have something pithy to say about this I am quite sure.

He would likely just pith all over it. I would ....... (except I am trying to hold it until the Westboro crowd loses their daughter bagging dad and bury it. Want to attend that party - it's gonna be wet and wild!!!) !!:D:D:D:D:D
