The idea of quantum computing and encryption is not that new. It is a hot area of study for theoretical Physicists and engineers. In fact there is an practical existing device that demonstrates quantum tunneling which has been used for decades- called a "Tunnel Diode" and the heterojunction of this device is what would be a model for computer hardware.

Quantum encryption is an unbreakable ( according to QM) schema that also tells the user whether or not the code has been tampered with or even looked at. Fascinating stuff.
