Teleportation anybody?

Actually all seriousness aside.........
The idea of quantum computing and encryption is not that new. It is a hot area of study for theoretical Physicists and engineers. In fact there is an practical existing device that demonstrates quantum tunneling which has been used for decades- called a "Tunnel Diode" and the heterojunction of this device is what would be a model for computer hardware.

.... Semiconductor researchers have known since the 1950s that the quantum-confinement effects of tunnel diodes boost circuit speed and current handling while reducing component count and power consumption. But processing difficulties long confined tunnel diodes to exotic materials and discrete devices.....

Quantum encryption is an unbreakable ( according to QM) schema that also tells the user whether or not the code has been tampered with or even looked at. Fascinating stuff.

....."The National Security Agency or one of the Federal Reserve banks can now buy a quantum-cryptographic system from two small companies - and more products are on the way. This new method of encryption represents the first major commercial implementation for what has become known as quantum information science, which blends quantum mechanics and information theory. The ultimate technology to emerge from the field may be a quantum computer so powerful that the only way to protect against its prodigious code-breaking capability may be to deploy quantum-cryptographic techniques."" .....

Why teleport troops?

Teleport BOMBS!!

ps. I don't think that teleportation is possible in the ST sence. Maybe translocation where ou move an entire area to another location.

This may be of interest: http://www.fas.org/sgp/eprint/teleport.pdf

"Teleportation Physics Study by Eric W. Davis, Air Force Research Laboratory, August 2004. "This study was tasked with the purpose of collecting information describing the teleportation of material objects, providing a description of teleportation as it occurs in physics, its theoretical and experimental status, and a projection of potential applications. I'm not a scientist so if anyone here with a science background can share their opinion on the above organization or paper that would be great!
