Merged Telepathy test: which number did I write?

It seems reasonable to assume that people who are aggressive and hostile in their comment will also be so in their (numerical) answer.

Wait. A "(numerical) answer"? You mean a number? The number will be aggressive and hostile? How on earth can a number do that? :jaw-dropp

I fear you may not like hearing one more criticism of your test but your deciding which answers should be dismissed or disqualified while you, yourself, know the correct answer means your format is of very little value.
I agree with you, Ladewig, that this is a weakness of my method.

But, in scientific research, one often have to make some kind of approximation, neglect a few things, perfection is unachievable. Even if my method is not perfect, that does not mean it is of no value. As I mentioned above (post #86, http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=8532698#post8532698 ), all skeptics on this forum are welcome to verify (check) my work, to check and double-check whether the answers I deemed credible are really so, and if the answers I did not find credible really were not. Sometimes, it's fairly obvious that some answers are not credible.

On the other hand, in a later stage of this project, it's possible I'll ask you (plural), members of this forum to tell me which answers should be deemed credible, and which ones should not (while avoiding judging your own answers). This would eliminate the risk of me favouring (numerically) correct answers (in a test where the target, the object to telepathically guess [ http://www.psychicscience.org/paraglos.aspx#Tar ] is a number). But this may be difficult, especially if the concept, the idea of evaluating credibilities of answers is not fully understood and agreed on.

I don't know exactly what Michel is trying to establish with her experiment, but certainly the poor design and small sample means she cannot hope to obtain meaningful results.

I'm also puzzled as to why she feels it necessary to do this experiment herself when the results of larger, much better designed experiments are freely available for examination. Not that I'm against doing your own experiments, quite the reverse, but they need to have at least some chance of producing meaningful results to be worth doing.
I am not a woman, Pixel42, I am a 54 years old man. And I do these experiments (here, and on other websites) because I think I am "telepathically special", and I am attempting to have this proved and recognized. ;)

With all due respect, you won't prove it like this. Partly because there is no such thing as telepathy, and partly because the tests you are conducting are not fair tests.

Numbers are generally not aggressive, xtifr. But, I think that, if a person knows that the correct answer in a telepathy test is 5 for example, and if that same person deliberately answers incorrectly 6 (while he/she knows the correct answer is 5), this might possibly be viewed as some form of aggressivity (which might also be visible in that person's comment).

Well, no.
It really is of no value.

1) The number of possible values is too low
2) the person discounting certain answers already knows the correct answer
3) answers are being dismissed on a patently subjective basis
4) the test does absolutely nothing to distinguish between your being a skilled telepathic and our being skilled remote viewers. (or prescient or sharing a common consciousness)
5) no success level was defined before the test

I'll let others finish the list.

A test run in this manner really is of no value at all.

.
Numbers can be depressed.
One is the lonliest number.

I thought your username was female, but of course the female form is spelt Michelle isn't it? As a female who is often mistaken for a male I try to pick up on such clues, but this time I got it wrong. My apologies.

What led you to think this? Are you aware of the cognitive biases, built into the way in which the brain works, which can lead us to believe coincidences are occuring more often than would be expected by chance?

The use of the scientific method can eliminate the effect of those biases, but only when used carefully and methodically. So far, I have to say, you show very little awareness of how to use it effectively.

Well, Pixel42, it would be a bit long to explain all the reasons why I think I am probably telepathically special and it is not the purpose of this thread. However, I may quote a few:
• Several people told me so, including my mother (although she seems to have changed her mind since).
• Three years ago, I asked this question : "In your opinion, is it possible to be "telepathic", in the sense that everybody else on this planet knows what the telepathic person thinks and perceives?" on Yahoo! Answers. (link: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/i...mY75lLjty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090601113445AAmVwcl ). One person answered: "I knew you were going to ask this question, an hour before you posted it.", and this answer was selected as the best by 60% of voters on Yahoo. (the answer "no that sounds stupid" received 0% of the votes).
• Two years ago, I asked "Do you sometimes have the odd impression of "knowing what I think"?" (link: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/i...4Jpypxnsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100703134559AAR70yj ), and an apparently exceptional answerer (with a best answer rate equal to 93% after 999 answers) answered "Well, I nearly always know what you think...".

You're joking, right? You must realise that none of this is grounds for thinking you might be telepathic?

Well, that's the most convincing scientific evidence I've ever seen. I'm totally convinced.

The million is yours!

ETA: No, wait . . .

What Pixel said. My mistake.

You think you're telepathic because your mother once said so, and because you received two joke answers to odd questions you posted on Yahoo? Please tell me you're not serious.
