TAM5 Forum Party: The Reckoning

Thanks everyone, it was a great party!

I'm glad my little contribution was so successful. :D

Obviously, next year there HAS to be a poolside party.
It would at least also attract more non forum people, and might even attract a bunch of non JREF/conference people to see what's going on. One downside though, while we could still swing the chocolate challenge, there's probably no hotel that's going to allow you to bring your own booze, since any guest attending and drinking at our party is not gambling in their casino and not drinking from their bar. Which would mean having the hotel's staff tend the bar, with either some kind of cash-bar system, or us picking up the entire tab of everything consumed by the party guests.

So while it would be a lot of fun, I would not make such an event THE forum party. Perhaps it would be more suitable as an alternative to the bar crawl for example.

Rebecca, you did a totally rad job hosting the party! Being the geezer I am now, I pooped out early (11:15pm) and missed many conversations and photo ops.

It was crowded and hard to hear other people. I couldn't even get near the chocolate challenge. And, I didn't know until later that I was within 20 feet of Marquis de C..... (sp). I liked the intimacy and think if the party is held at an "official" venue the energy will be sucked out of the room (a science thingy I'm sure). I'm very happy that money was raised for both organizations. Woot!
Rebecca, how come you are not my next door neighbor???

I took a LOT of photos but have not gone through them yet due to me being completely wiped to the point of missing a LOT of things afterward (a modeling shoot and then a second one and that is even after I missed most of Saturday's events due to modeling a bit on Thursday). I will definitely have more posts so I can link to them when I have them live. I'll try to make it so that people can make comments about the people (names - but no name calling!) in there somewhere. Then i'll delete the comments and just name them properly. Unless there's somebody who knows absolutely everybody and wants to take charge of the naming.

Next year I would love to help take part in the official photography volunteer team (Hey there Chip!) and I'm also game for the Alaska cruise since we've already purchased our tickets for it. Well, we've put the deposits down, but we're going.

Yay! Photos to show soon. Disability hearing tomorrow. Not to be superstitious, but fingers crossed etc.

Thanks. It was a memorably fine party. I never went to any party before where I talked ghost hunting with Richard Wiseman, physics with Ray Hall, all sorts of stuff with Girl 6 and was assaulted with a furry pink phallus...

The noise level was far from high for such a big group. My only suggestion for 07- especially if it's at the Riv- is to actually wait till we get there, then find two rooms with TAM attendees either side- or of course, warn the neighbours early and invite them in or offer to find them an empty TAM room a few doors away. (This can work, but can also backfire).

Rebecca- one slight correction. By my watch, the hotel security goons arrived at 02:20, not 03:30 and I didn't see any city cops- just the SWAT team and the black helicopters hovering outside the balcony.

I was also surprised that in spite of the Riv's promise that the TAM room rate was for their luxurious upgraded rooms, we were scattered all over the complex. I was in Monaco too, but when I spent the night a week later en route home, I was put in a Monte Carlo room similar to one of the party rooms (except lacking a balcony). I was told this was TWO GRADES HIGHER than the room I had booked...because, yet again, they were unable to meet their commitment to provide a non smoking room, despite either days or months notice.
So I left the window open all night.
How's about next year we just rent the Peppermill?;)

. . . That was a killer party Rebecca & Phil! Thanks!
I'll attend again next year wherever it ends up taking place.

For the record, rebecca did the leg work. I just got everyone drunk and made sure nothing and no one was broken or set on fire when she had to leave.

By the way, I have to apologize to those who came up to the suite the following morning for speakers and what have you. No one should have to see me in my underwear like that. I think I was still drunk, and I might have growled at you. I'm sure I was a scary sight.

Oh, and Boo, the thing on the ceiling was there. It was behind the bar with me, being shy. I'll see if I can find a picture.

I wanted to thank all involved in the party. We snuck in (more of a lurker than a poster, but I was encouraged to change that and aren't you sorry now!) and enjoyed it very much.

I was describing the party, people I'd met, the naughty bits candies, etc., to a friend & he said "Who are these people? Are they sceptics? Are they kinky?" So maybe another branch: Scepti-kinks? Imagine the calendar potential.

That party was utterly fantastic and I'm not even really a party-person either.

Thanks for putting together a great shindig, guys!

You're all very much welcome!

FYI, I just made the Paypal donation of the extra party money. I used the handy new donate button at the top of the forum, which seemed to be appropriate for the occasion.
