TAM5 Forum Party: The Reckoning

Great party, Rebecca. Sorry I had to leave without saying goodbye, but I had a plane to catch and you were unfortunately nowhere to be found. I'm looking forward to whatever you do next year!

Edit: One thing that does occur to me, upon further reflection-- it would be cool to have the forum party earlier in the conference next year, maybe Thursday night, rather than right before the end. That way, you meet people earlier and have a couple of days to hang out during the conference.

Feh and schmeh. Last year the party was in a 'proper' room and it was OK. Just OK. This year was a Bex-organised shindig in a 'mere' hotel suite and it was fricking awesome.

I know where I'd rather be.

However, that doesn't mean I won't turn up to next year's if it happens to be in the Wynn ballroom...

Saganite was supposed to get me drunk and possibly have me throw up. I guess I'll take this opportunity to publicly shame her because she didn't get me drunk enough to throw up. Nevertheless, I still <3 you Saganite for signing my calandar and being nice at the party the night before.

I am utterly, completely shamed. I considered it my duty and my honor to get you drunk to the point of illness. I accepted the challenge, and I failed. Apparently my tactic of grabbing you every time you went by yelling "Are you drunk yet?" wasn't as failsafe as I'd thought.

I'm upset I didn't get nearly as much face time with my calendar models as I wanted. Next year I demand that Saganite hold my hair back as I throw up.

As Dawkins might say, you hold my hair back when I'm throwing up, and I'll hold yours!

It was a great party, and I had a great time! Unfortunately I missed out on the part where you got busted. It's barely a party unless you get busted.

The Amaz!ing Party!

As an almost complete neophyte to the forum and a first time TAM participant, I would like to shout out a big THANK YOU to Rebecca and "Phil" for hosting The Amaz!ing Party.

It was a great time and a great group of people. I completely agree with Rebecca's economic analysis of hosting the party in a banquet hall in the future. It pretty much has to be in a suite, which means the mandatory kick-out by hotel security.

The only possible better place than the suite would be the bridge of NCC-1701-D at the Hilton, but there ain't no way in the Federation that that could happen.

For those non-Trekkers out there, here's what I am talking about.

The hotel did not assign rooms until we checked in.
Even worse, not everyone was even in the same tower, but paid the same rate. I stayed in the Monaco tower, which unlike the Monte Carlo tower has smaller rooms no mini fridge (not that I really cared). When I discovered my safe was disassembled and returned to the registration to switch rooms, I ran into Loon. He was in the same tower and I thought that maybe everyone was going to be in the same location. Later that night when meeting up with Wollery and Exarch I found that wasn't the case and they were in the Monte Carlo tower (which was good for a mini party with ice box and all). The hotel didn't seem to have any kind of rhyme or reason to room assignment. I heard that some people were in the San Remo tower and had booked with the TAM code.

Okay, enough derailing with reservation and room critiques. Rebecca, you and everyone who helped contribute to the party did a great job! I'm confident that the next one will be equally if not more successful.

I think I'll celebrate my 1000th post, by complimenting Rebecca on her excellent party! (All criticisms I offer of it, should be taken as creative feedback, and in no way, should be taken as my disliking it. It was, overall, excellent!)

I hope you consider donating much of the left over chocolate to the poor. They could use a few nibbles of fancy confectionery, every so often.

These included forum and non (future?)-forum members, as well as speakers like Chris Hitchens, the guys from Reason Magazine, Phil Plait, and Richard Wiseman, as well as all the guys from the Skeptics Guide to the Universe podcast and multiple Skepchick and Skepdude calendar models. Possibly others I missed. It was crowded.

Banachek also showed up, at least for a little while.

I didn't even get slightly tipsy, which was a good thing considering how early my Sunday flight was.

I got tipsy, which was a good thing because it helped me to stay up until it was time to leave for my really early flight Sunday morning. I stayed with the
party after it moved to the casino bar.

That was a killer party Rebecca & Phil! Thanks!
I'll attend again next year wherever it ends up taking place.

Agreed - it was a fantastic party. I got more than tipsy :) It was also the first time I've ever been kicked out - that was awesome!

For the record, Mr. Ottle, who does not drink and has been my patient companion at many many loud and drunken affairs commented about how surprising quiet we were. It was generally a large group of people talking at normal tones of voice - which I am sure turned into a louder party for the neighbors but still. Also, he left before we got kicked out so we might have gotten rowdier...

Can't wait for next year!

There was no table big enough for me to safely sit under.

If the thing on the ceiling made it, it didn't eat anyone.

There were no rat a$$ tacos.

I couldn't find any curly straws.

The hot tub out back had ice and drinks it, thus making it unusable for it's original purpose.

My under the table pillows, aka Mercutio and 7th sextile, were not in attendance.

I guess the party was ok.:boxedin:

I would have happily been your pillow, had there been a table we could get under! :)

Pool Side would be fun, with a HOT TUB!!!

Well, Rebecca would get in. We could shoot her skepchick calendar photo right there!

We were very quiet. I would note that the security dudes at the Riv checked out the bulletin board several times that I noticed. I think they were just WAITING for a complaint.

Oliver Stone is going to do a movie about it.

The music was provided by Hauteden, who brought a laptop and hosted a very professional set-up complete with full printed playlists, allowing anyone to choose whatever song they wanted. He even accepted other music provided by partygoers on CD or flash drive. Zygar brought a fantastic speaker set-up. The music was rocking all night long, and even encouraged a number of people in the living room to dance. An excellent job all around -- I owe them my deepest thanks.
...

You're very welcome, I enjoyed doing it. I'll gladly do it again if the need arises. I'd like to thank Zygar for those rockin' speakers. I had to turn down the bass to prevent unwanted massages. :)

I'd like the thank all those who started dancing cause it told me I was doing something right.

I didn't get as many requests as I was hoping but I chalk that up to people not knowing that I was taking requests.

And in case anybody was wondering, yes, I did get to mingle. I was the guy the hypnotically colorful glass.

Damn. This is two parties in a row I've missed, and they sound like so much fun! It appears much may change by next year, but one thing that will not is that I'm going to be at this party, come hell or high water!

Just make sure you bring the Pool Boy to scoop out various bits floatasm that will most assuredly accumalate.;)

Boo
That little speeling error set my perverted mind into a whirl! :D
