TAM XIII Roll Call

At Party Boat TAM, all sexual harassers will be tossed over board to swim for their lives in Lake Mead's Libertarian infested waters.

I'm planning on going. This will be my first one. Just so you know, all those beautiful young people with chiseled features and body hair that accentuates rather than repels. Yeah, that's not me (just in case we do the party barge option, don't want anyone to have unrealistic expectations).

I was going to remark that the party barge picture didn't look quite like the TAM crowd that I remembered*, but thought better of it.

*with a few notable exceptions

Hat tip to Bumlet for a good description. I also am amazed at the amount of specialty knowledge. We all take turns feeling like the dumb kid as the conversation goes anywhere and everywhere. Being out of your comfort zone is nice when surrounded by most of the TAM attendees.

I am soooooo trying to figure a way to swing this. Timing is just bad this year.

Someone once explained it like this - a lot of TAM attendees are used to being the smartest person in the room. At TAM, you're no longer the smartest person in the room.

I guess it's good that we didn't go last year. The TAM account has 2 years worth of savings in it.

TAM's going to be at the Tropicana this year: http://www.amazingmeeting.com/

Well, I looked it up on Google Maps to see where on The Strip it is.

Sounds promising.

ETA: I see it's a Hilton so that means also getting some HHonors points. :)

South end of the strip. You can get pretty far north just by walking over to MGM and getting on the monorail.

Also, Just was there twice in the last month. The Linq is worth checking out. It is located where the previously smelly ally was in between the Flamingo and what was O'Shae's. Also recommend a ride on the High Roller at the end of the Linq.

I do not know if I am going yet. Waiting to see the speaker line up.

There's a rather good chance I'll be there.

Whether this is a good thing waits to be seen.

I was going to stay at a timeshare thing I have in Vegas just south of the strip. Does anyone think I'll miss out by not staying at the Tropicana? I recall taxis being plentiful and cheap in Vegas. Anyone interested in an offsite trip to the Hofbrauhaus? I may even wear my lederhosen.

I've known people who have stayed at other places, but I don't know how it went for them. I personally wouldn't because of the convenience. Staying up in the bar until midnight and going to an 8am breakfast doesn't work well for me if I have to take the time to "go home". It's also easier to take a nap during a speaker you aren't interested in seeing when your room is a 5 minute walk away.

If that's what you want to do, it's certainly not unheard of. It just depends on how you want to handle your time and what your social intentions are.

If you've been to TAM before and already know what to expect, then I'd say staying elsewhere would be OK. If it is your first one, I would suggest staying at the hotel. Many people find that getting together with other attendees and speakers outside of the conference sessions is a big part of what makes TAM special. If you're staying elsewhere, it's still possible to be part of this, but knowing you can go up to your room at any time definitely makes things more convenient.

ETA: I'd probably be up for beer and sausages. :) I also want LV sushi again.
