I'd love to go to TAM V, but I'm afraid that my meagre Chinese salary would render it impossible without some financial assistance. :(

What's the probability that such will be available, and if it is when would I know, and what would be the likely amount?

My understanding is that the scholarship will pay for your JREF registration fees, not travel cost or hotel.

I could be mistaken, though.

I know Paul A. helped to run it last year.

Also, you can usually find someone to share a room with, and that helps.

I was thinking about this just recently; has anyone considered setting up a 501(c)(3) corporation to raise funds and award TAM scholarships? Such a setup would make contributions tax deductible, which might encourage more people to donate, and I don't think it would be all that hard.

Of course, this might have already been done.

Dude, did you have to go and ruin my charitable statement like that? Sheesh!

Wowbanger, as one who gave a fairly large amount last year, I for one appaud your willingness to donate. IIRC, we had over 35 folks (some from the JREF, some not) on scholarship last year and I am sure Paul A. would love to increase that number. I hope to donate some money (I don't think I'll get to last year's total) but keep an eye on this subforum and posts by Paul A. when we get a little closer to the TMA5 date.

wollery, the Scholarship takes care of the registration fee. Last year Jeff Wagg and I both loaned money to other JREF Forum members for hotel/air fare costs, mostly based on knowing and trusting the people we loaned money too. Again, I don't know how my financial status is going to play out this year, but we'll see..

For quick and dirty planning, hotel costs are about $400 for 5 nights stay (if the prices remain $60 sun-thur and $90 fri-sat plus taxes), you get 2 breakfast and 2 lunches as part of your registration, and as long as you don't gamble, you can survive on a pretty small budget.

Just FYI.

Wollery, I have a brand-new, shiny fifty pence piece here. If I haven't spent it on sweets by then, it's yours.

You think so? ;)

I think Jeff Wagg and Hutch can help with scholarship information.

Also, many people get "roomies" and share expenses, so Wollery, if you can please go - you won't regret it!

I'll be looking to donate to the scholarship fund again this year. However, I suspect I won't be able to give as much as last year. Still, every little helps, I guess.

Anyone hear if the scholarship donation site exists, yet? I guess it is still a bit early. The last time I looked the price wasn't announced, so maybe that may be a holdup. Knowing how much admission is can certainly influence donation amounts.
