TAM Highlights?

I guess it is obvious that it has taken me some time to collect my experiences from TAM to form the TAM highlights. As many before has pointed out it is just great to be among so many friends and familiar faces. And it is a lot of fun to meet all new friends. Thus I will not make a long list of all the wonderful people I have met because I am afraid to forget to put any one individual on such a list. I will not mention any forum names at all (except one).
Before changing from talking about all old friends to the presentations I only want to say that it does hurt to meet people for only a few short minutes that you spent hours in discussions with on some previous TAM; I want more than 24 hours a day.

Of the talks I really enjoyed the FAB-lab talk. Even if, as some has pointed out, it was not about scepticism it was about giving people the possibility to do things themselves and think for themselves.
But I will not say much about the talks, they were mostly quite good; that is frankly what I expect at TAM so I will not dwell on that topic.

What I will present as my TAM highlights are the things I did not expect but that I will probably remember for some time to come. The first is one of those funny things that happen and the second is people I did not expect to meet.

In a proper double blind experiment it is now clear who is the better looking guy, Jeff Wagg or I. Unfortunately the sample size was only one, since I say unfortunately it should be clear that I got the vote.
It was at the reception on Thursday evening it happened. I was standing with Jeff and some other forum people close to the door to the penthouse when someone without a badge needed to talk to Jeff to get in. I do not know the exact wording but the person was told to talk to the good looking guy around the corner. The person looked around the group and chose to address me.
I thought it was funny and to Jeff’s credit so did he. :D

While a lot of people seemed star struck by meeting Trey Stone and Matt Parker I had my own moment of star struckness with some really fantastic, huge, world famous stars that most of you probably never noticed. ;)
I was collecting the tickets for Banachek’s show when Luke Jermay came. Luke Jermay has one of the most devious minds in mentalism and has been working alongside Banachek as a consultant to Criss Angel; he has also worked with Derren Brown. I really like his material, and I had the opportunity to tell him that as I welcomed him to the show.

Thinking I had my great surprise of the day it was not long before Jamy Ian Swiss turned up with Jeff McBride; Luke Jermay and Jeff McBride, both in one day! Although McBride is more into manipulation than mentalism anyone who does magic knows about Jeff McBride. I do not think that I was nicer to McBride than to the other people I welcomed to the show but I did tell him that I enjoyed his work; for some reason though after the show was finished he gave me his new DVD. That surprised me so much I did not even remember to get it signed.

Hanging in the bar with Banachek, Luke and Jamy after the show was strange, but in a good way. I guess I am as guilty as the next person to consider some people to be more special than others.

Totally - Adam Savage is so genuinely thrilled to be there - it's really wonderful to see!
I wasn't surprised when they announced that Adam would be a guest for TAM5. At TAM4 I sat right behind him for all the lectures. He paid careful attention to each lecture and took tons of notes. He seemed very interested in TAM as an attendee and not just as a lecturer. Plus he's just a cool regular type of guy! :D
