TAM Australia

Bad news you Skeptics in the Pub goers. I've just got a place. By then I will not have had a drink for three months, and look forward to breaking my fast for that weekend.

Look out!!!

/me runs to check on the safety of her +1 :p

Glad to see you can make it along. Looking forward to having a drink (or six) with you :)

TAM OZ Accomodation

I have two nights booked at Maze backpackers (100m from the venue), but I now have better hotel accommodation.

Before I cancel the Backpackers on Fri26 & Sat 27 I was wondering in anyone out there needed some cheap TAM Oz accommodation ?.

email pmacgowan@gmail.com if you want it, otherwise I will cancel by this Friday.

Yours Paul :)

Dunning & Watson in Melbourne

Are you a skeptic, or skeptically inclined?

Sad that you missed out on The Amazing Meeting in Sydney...or revved up from TAM and left wanting more?

Then don't despair! With thanks to TAM Australia and the Australian Skeptics, the University of Melbourne Secular Society and the Vic Skeptics are proud to present a FREE public lecture featuring international skeptic stars Brian Dunning and Rebecca Watson!

Brian Dunning (Skeptoid.com) and Rebecca Watson (skepchick.org; The Skeptics' Guide to the Universe) will be presenting public lectures on the 1st of December 2010, at Bridie O'Reilly's pub in Brunswick (29 Sydney Road, Brunswick).

Dinner will be available from 6.30 PM, with lectures starting at 7.30 PM. There will be meal deals available on the night -- $15 drink and parma, and a possible vegetarian option currently under discussion.

This event is free to attend; however there will be merchandise available to purchase on the night (and donations are welcome).

There is a Facebook event page which i can't link here but do a quick search to find it.

We'll see you all there!

YAY!!!

An event I can actually go to! As a bonus, I know that pub pretty well already, it's a pretty good fake Irish, good selection of beers on tap and the foods pretty good for pub fare.

I'll definitely be attending.

I know there's going to be WiFi available at the conference venue, but I picked up a WiFi dongle from Virgin Mobile yesterday for $59. I've found Internet in Australian hotels is notoriously expensive, and I'm in town for 8 nights. Even if I never use it again, I will have saved money. The $59 includes 4GB data, and runs on the Optus network (generally considered to be one of the most reliable providers). Discounted price (down from $79) available until November 30th, but 4GB allowance only starts when you activate the dongle. Thought it might be useful (and cheaper) for any of you who are coming from overseas. :)

Pamela Gay has replaced D.J. Grothe in the program, but Grothe is still in the list of invited speakers and Gay isn't.

I wonder whether Grothe is still able to make it.

Thanks.

Oh well. Hopefully what came up isn't something bad.

Damn. That's a shame.

Anybody else going to see Simon Taylor? I'm pretty excited about it :)

Yeah, I'll be at the SGU dinner.

This is the Stargate Universe function, isn't it? I've got my Lucian Alliance outfit all sorted. ;)

SGU dinner was a bit out of my price range, so I'm pretty glad to have something else to keep me occupied on the Saturday night. Of course, if Simon Taylor fails, there's always vodka.
