After a major screw-up with the US Customs computers at the Ottawa Airport, pretty much every flight out was delayed, so now I'm on standby for a noon-ish flight, with a confirmed seat on a later flight, so here's an update:

How easy is it to book a flight on the spot from LAX to Vegas?

I get into lax at 1030 but don't fly to vegas until 1530.

So far this trip is killing me and I've only crossed from one side of Australia to the other. Now there's a longhaul accross the ocean to lax, then a short domestic to vegas. Anything I can do to cut back on the travel time is welcomed. I don't mind buying another airfare from LA if necissary.

There are usually heaps of flights available - I would say it would be easily enough done but you may not like paying full fare for a short hop.

Its a 4 hour drive if you are up to it - somewhat scenic once you get out of LAX.
 
What would a taxi charge me for that trip? I could hire a car I guess.

How much is a full fare. I payed $49 with delta, it's a 90 min flight.
 
If you go through Southwest it's pretty cheap, but I'm not sure about the last minute deals. You also have to consider that as soon as you land at LAX your luggage will be on it's way to your next leg (assuming you have checked luggage). For them to get it to you, for you to get a car, and then drive the 4 hours to Las Vegas, it would be just about the same time as if you relaxed in LAX for a few hours and took the final hour-long flight.

I don't think you want to hire a taxi to drive you from LA to Vegas. That would be significantly more expensive than flying.

If you could get your plane to LAX a couple hours early, I'd pick you up and bring you, but I'm planning on leaving town around 6 AM or so.
 
Lounging in Montreal, boarding in about an hour. Damn Air Canada doesn't open the bar 'til 1100am. Strangely prudish for Canada.
 
In the Ft. Lauderdale airport, boarding in about an hour. I keep looking at other travelers, wondering if any of them are going to TAM.
