Tam 8

Just got my set of TAM 7 DVDs! The JREF store sure ships fast, though the actual ordering process was a bit clumsy, with that window that pops up. Or maybe it was Firefox not playing along.

In any case, I can't wait to start watching tonight!

I presume these will be available at the next TAM conference? I was going to order them, but the shipping cost to Australia was massive! Around $30-$40 if I remember correctly.

I'm sure somebody is either coming from Oz or going to TAMOz that can get the TAM7 DVDs to you. They will be available at TAM8, they sell all the previous TAM DVDs there.

As Sc00ter wrote, yes, the TAM7 DVDs will be available at TAM8. You will have to pay the 8.1% Nevada state sales tax, and you will get your 10% JREF member discount at TAM8. Bring your membership card!

The South Point has a 50% off rooms sale going on now. It lasts for 2 days. Get the good price while you can.

I listened to the For Good Reason Podcast when they announced Dawkins as the key note and I am sure Registration will be opening any day; however, I don't recall them saying exactly when registration would open. I have gone to the last 3 TAMs and the anticipation gets worse with each one.

So can we make reservations yet? Is there a group code to give South Point yet??

No group code yet but right now there is a 50% off room sale which will get you a better deal then the group rate. I got my room today.

Thanks!

I have my room and flight booked! WooHoo!!! I'm REALLY going!!!
I haven't been since TAM4!!!

Damn! I can't wait!

During that same podcast, DJ did say "this week" for registration happening. It's Thursday now, so I'm guessing tomorrow...

Children

Will there be somewhere to store children, or should I bring a huge bag of quarters and place the kids on the slots?

In Vegas, there are ads everywhere that say "Girls! Straight to Your Room!"

I am sure these girls would be willing to take care of your kids.

I eagerly kept checking randi.org every day this week, but alas no registration was available. Now that it is Saturday here in North America I guess we will have to wait until Monday, at the earliest.

Same here, kind of a bummer.

Can't take them to the conference if they're under 12 (I *think* that's the cutoff age); can't leave them in the casino; can't leave them at the pool unattended; no IKEA-style ball pit on the premises (despite what you may hear Scrut whispering to someone at 2:25am); no day care.

Your best bet is to arrive a couple days early and get them jobs in the local service industry. That'll keep 'em busy and will help recoup some of your travel expenses.

I can't speak for the JREF, but I think the cutoff age would only be enforced if the child is disturbing others. We don't check birth certificates after all. An 11-year old acting maturely would be OK, but a 13-year old acting like a child would be an issue. The only child-related problem I know of was one couple that had a crying infant at an early TAM.

I was the same! This kind of anticipation can't be healthy. Very little people even know that Dawkins is the Key note speaker. At the Sacramento Drinking Skeptically I had to tell many people (who are very active skeptics and TAM goers) about it. I hope it goes up Monday.

What about normal sized people? I'm 174cm and I know that Dawkins is the keynote speaker, because DJ Groethe announced it on the JREF podcast. It behooves you to listen--when you're not dissing garden gnomes like Randi. :D
