TAM 6 Party Suite...

Well that settles it!! Maybe the noise won't be such an issue, then?

But... if we get this heated debate over with now, we won't have to deal with it, next year.

You appear to be unaware of the fact that all your points have been raised in the past, and not only have they all been adequately answered in this thread but they've also been discussed in depth in the past. I've now had the chance to read your responses in this thread and they annoy me, so instead of answering yet again, I'll just direct you to this thread from TAM5:

http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73425

If you still have ideas and suggestions after you read that very clear overview, you should incorporate those into the party you are throwing. There is not a single thing stopping you from throwing the party of your dreams, so get to it!

edited to quote the relevant info in the OP linked to, just in case:

Money
The suite for the party cost $436 when I first booked it. The hotel charged me an additional $11.84 on checkout, but I'm not sure why. Snacks and drinks bought by me cost a total of approximately $150.

Total expenditures: $586.

There was a bucket at the front door where people could drop money. I also accepted larger donations via PayPal prior to TAM. Altogether, we raised $839. As promised, the leftover will be split evenly between Skepchick.org and JREF. I'll Paypal $127 to JREF shortly.

Why I Didn't....
A number of people have suggested that it would have been better (or would be better next year) to rent a function hall. I hope to be as comprehensive as possible here, since I'm getting tired of repeating myself. From now on I'll just link to this post.

Unlike previous TAMs, this year JREF was not given a hospitality room to use for the forum party, so I offered to take it all over. Obviously my first try was to rent a function space. Please compare the above actual numbers to what this would have cost. All numbers are based on 125 guests.

Rental of the Top of the Riv function room: Free!
Appetizers (chips, dips, vegetables): $700
Bar (house [cheap] brands): $2750
Tax: $267
18% Gratuity: $621
Total: $4338

This figure would cover the party for two hours. After that, the bar would increase in cost by about $600/hour. Time would be limited by the Riviera's schedule.

The hotel would not allow outside food or drink at such a party. It is possible I'd be able to talk them into allowing the chocolate, but I am sure that there would be no liquor/wine/beer challenges of any kind.

So that's why.

In conclusion
I'd like to host another party next year. I see a lot of people talking about taking it over, formalizing it, putting it in a ballroom - if anyone is interested in doing that, no problem, go for it. However, I had a lot of fun this year and I think other people did, too. I personally would not be interested in a party like what has been proposed, so regardless I'll probably go ahead and throw another big party next year anyway. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it, but I just thought I should mention it now. Thanks to everyone who showed up and made it one of the best parties I've ever been to. Thanks especially to those who contributed money, food, drink, and time. You guys kick ass!

I was only kidding about the "heated debate"! Maybe I should have placed a wink emoticon near that line, or something. But, gosh, some of you have no sense of humor, anymore.
What offended me, why I could NOT laugh (and may not again) is your mention of the Stardust. Oh, the horrors of what happened to me in the Stardust, in days of yore. How she got so many spiny anteaters in the room unnoticed is still a horrific puzzle to me...

Addressed to everyone in general:

As much as I hate Rebecca, I am glad she has (once again) taken the initiative to plan the Forum party.

Instead of asking a million questions about why not this and why not that and can't you do this, either attend the party and try to have a good time, or plan and host your own party. There is nothing stopping you. I suspect that had she not made this first step, it would not have gotten done.

But I still hate her.

I'm sorry for the annoyance, then. I just wanted to make sure we weren't going to annoy others in the near future. I shall now promise to let the issue drop, until such a time occurs where we end up getting kicked out for being noisy, again. Thanks.

It should be noted that the "party of my dreams" would not be much different than the party you would be throwing, anyway. So, there's no point in my throwing another one.

Are you sure it wasn't The Mirage where you saw those animals?

THAT could work! Thanks much Ohmer - remind me to buy you a drink! :)

I was looking for some Klingon battle armor so we could fight to the death for honor and glory! (quietly). A beer sounds cool to. :)

The same shop has a pretty good Roman warrior costume complete with fake gladius.

Rock on Rebecca and thanks for all your efforts!! Se ya after P&T at the party!!

I strongly suspect that if Rebecca told the hotel she wanted the room to throw a party, they will offer her a room as far as possible from sleeping guests. I also suspect that there is a whole floor of "Hospitality Suites" -- at least there has been at many of the hotels I've been at, so sleeping guests won't be an issue. (Or at least it's an issue that can be ignored.)

And I also think that The Flamingo is laid out differently than the Everglades Best Western (or wherever the TAM 5.5 party was held), so if you all manage to stay out of the pool, that won't become an issue either... ;)

That's what I figure. Hence my dropping of the issue.

According one of 'Becca's posts, it seems the party will be held at Caesar's Palace. Not sure why, but does seem like a nice locale, actually.

I know you dropped it, but I just wanted to say something anyway! :p

You've clearly never been lost in Caesar's Palace. It's a frightening place to be!

Oh, I've been there! And, I've been lost in there, too, a couple of times. But, despite the random shopping plazas that tend to pop up, every now and then, along the halls, it still seems like a nice place to me. (Just as long as you don't upset King Atlas.)

Yeah, staying there seems like the ultimate in luxury to me. Mr.Sis and I have talked about it, but then I can just never bring myself to plunk down the almost $300 a night for a room when we're there.

I got so lost inside there (okay, it was at the end of a party weekend), that I actually had to walk around the interior with my right hand on a wall, trying to find an exit. Once I found one, I didn't care that it was on the wrong side of the building from the car park. I was so thrilled to see daylight, I just walked around the outside of the building until I found the cars...

Deal. Though I plan on keeping my gladius sheathed so that I can party down. And yes, "keeping my gladius sheathed" is sexual innuendo :)

Good question, not positive at the moment as I totally flaked about the presence of a balcony. Lemme get back to you.

Since mine in merely a question of logistics from someone who will be attending, take your time. :)

Some considerations I have:
- Depending on the number of smokers, will there be safety issues on a balcony?
- If we go outside or to the casino, will we be able to get back to the suite? I remember the Stardust wouldn't allow you upstairs after hours if you didn't have a room key.

Probably because that counted as a guest room and not a public area.

Combined with what Becks recalled, I concur.

There appears to be a bit of flirting going on in here. I'm not sure I'm okay with it. Especially when it's occuring between The Central Scrutinizer and a man who's coming to Vegas dressed up as a gladiator. That's just weird.

Rebecca, thank you so much for arranging this party, I can't wait to attend!

By the way, in my mind, Vegas + Gladiator ALWAYS = that episode of "Friends" where Joey tells the others that he's in a period movie but really he's walking around the floor of Caesar's with a cardboard sword, posing for photos with tourists.

What a big fuss out of ... hmmm ... nothing. New ideas are welcome, but I'll go with Rebecca this time.

Long live, Rebecca!

PS
Some may hate her, but still .....
