Syria and UN Security Council Decision

China thought so. I live in the US.

But in your philosophy the US is better than China. The US made their decision despite not even having a dog in the fight, the reality is they made a choice they didn't even have too.

This was about a country shuffling from one communist sphere of influence to another, why didn't the US simply denounce both sides

Are you retracting your claim that the US supported Pol Pot?

The US did denounce both sides... and supported (unsuccessfully) the Cambodian government when they were fighting the Khmer Rouge.

Are you claiming that I am?

Which ended when the communist forces took control of the country. 5 years later they are supporting the side they fought against, who are doing nothing more than fighting another communist faction. Why give Pol Pot legitimacy in the UN.

You accuse China of meddling in a war, the US was also meddling in. You can not have your cake and eat it. Either both nations are wrong in their interference or both countries are right to interfere in the circumstances

What's wrong with getting commies to fight each other?

Nothing what so ever, however when one side has a stated goal of exterminating 50% of it's nations population, and was well on the way to achieving that goal, you have to wonder at the mental kaniption you have to go through to support that side.

When in reality you didn't have to do anything

Here are two articles from late December.

Seems like that crazy Assad guy bombed his own military intelligence headquarter in Aleppo today, right guys?

Neither of those articles address my question, which I will ask again in a different way:

How are you able to determine that the indiscriminate shelling of Baba Amr doesn't sound like the work of Ba'athists? I'm not disagreeing that it sounds like the work of AQ, but you went out of your way to suggest it couldn't possibly be Ba'athists - why, and how were you able to do that?

My post was a sleight-of-hand dismissal of WildCat's implicit assertion that his youtube-Video of unknown origin showing unspecified events with subtitles of unknown accuracy is evidence for the "Assad is bombing peaceful protesters" narrative. If you read the articles I've posted in this thread you know that there's ample reason to question that narrative. For me, the Russians and Chinese, the rest of the international community outside the imperial propaganda bubble, and for you.

Another Thierry Meyssan article?

Same article has tweets claiming Israel and the US bombed these sites.

Any more comedy claims?

EDIT: FYI, speculation isn't translated to 'ample reason'.

I may be missing something in all this, but if I understand the story correctly, the noble and just nation of Syria has fallen prey to international gangs who appear to be randomly surrounding cities and slaughtering the loyal government citizens with mortar and artillery

So where the hell is the Syrian army? Why are they not spearheading a counter attack against these evil invaders. Where is the mighty airforce flying around the clock missions to get badly needed supplies to the hard pressed citizens of these cities.

Where is the resolution before the UN security council sponsored by China and Russia calling for immediate aid to Syria.

I guess if you are going to tell a story, you need to make it something that doesn't look like it is a rejected script from Hogan's Heros

Sibel Edmonds refers to a not-so-secret plan for possible U.S. options in Syria. Color me unimpressed that you think this would support your claim of Ba'athist innocence.

The first cite in the Land Destroyer article refers to an unsourced claim that Voltaire reported:

LD said:
We have collected eyewitness testimonies from those who survived an armed attack by a foreign gangs. They describe them as being Iraqis, Jordanians or Libyans, recognizable by their accent, as well as Pashtun.

when in fact the Voltaire article mentions nothing of the sort, and certainly doesn't list any source, corroborative or not. It repeats the idea that "Foreign mercenaries" are doing the killing, without citing a single fact and lambasting Syrian opposition with unfounded and deliberate lies.

All of which does nothing to support your idea that this couldn't possibly be the work of Ba'athists.

So will you answer my question?

Sounds about right. Apparently Assad, according to, Thierry Meyssan,:

President Bashar al-Assad prohibited security, police and army forces from using firearms in any circumstance where civilians might get hurt. The purpose is to prevent that the injuries, or even death, of a person belonging to one creed or the other, be exploited to justify a war of religion. This prohibition is respected by the security forces at the risk of their own lives,

What a good man!

Well they're literally dying in the streets rather than raising their firearms, on command of Assad, and risking injuring any innocent civilian!
