Policy shifts occassioned by changing situations? Say it isn't so!
Like the way that Joe Stalin begun trying to make nice with the evil imperalist/Capitalists powers the Uk and the US after June 22,1941....
Policy shifts occassioned by changing situations? Say it isn't so!
Breaking news: Policy decisions in a large democracy are subject to politics!
It's got nothing to do with democracy whatsoever.

Obama wasn't elected?![]()
Lol.
What a difference a year makes. From calling Assad the "new Hitler" the US is now cooperating with Syria's president in combatting ISIS
US military action in the Middle East virtually never fulfills the stated goals, says Glenn Greenwald, and achieves little other than justifying endless military action for its own sake.
How Syria's new Hitler turned into US partner in less than a year courtesy of ISIS
LOL indeed. And it's funny how the folks here go all realpolitik on you when the outrageous hypocrisy and lies of their leaders become too obvious for even the most stupid of them not to notice.
We should intervene, they say. Assad is very bad. He eats children alive. And you say, so what? Last week we were cosying up to him etc. and round and round it goes. Now the wheel has spun again and he has become the good guy but rather than admit their stupidity they chirp wisely away about it being politics, as if that's not what they were resisting when Assad was Hitler.
Who called Assad a child eater and who suddenly called him a good guy?
I mislike straw men, did I mention that yet?

I was characterising the forum, not addressing a particular person or post. Still, if the cap fits, wear it.
I'm quite sure that neither "Assad is evil and eats children" nor "Assad is a good guy" is a remotely accurate characterization of overall opinions expressed on this forum.

On false pretenses. He pretended to be progressive and when, in reality, he is yet another neo-liberal, Wall Street
Joe Biden has been engaging in a rather plumb and bizarre attempt at revisionism by basically admitting everything "our allies" had been doing over the years to help the rise of ISIS, in their obsession to get rid of Assad, but pretending that the US had nothing to do with it and was forced to simply observe what was going on. As if they had never been "Friends of Syria". But now suddenly everybody has "seen the Lord" (he really said that) and is coming together under US leadership to destroy the menace. Erdogan, Biden said, has admitted to him "mistakes" about "letting to many people in". Many more gems in that short piece of his talk at Harvard, including the claim that it were Iran and Russia who "took a while" to realize the "existential threat", which of course couldn't be further from the truth. You couldn't make it up:
Needless to say, Erdogan is foaming at the mouth over the claim that he had admitted a mistake, denies to have made the remarks and demands an apology from Biden, otherwise he's "history for me". And, to top BS with BS, he claims that "Foreign fighters have never entered Syria from our country."
These days I'm busy updating my "Assault on Kobane" article, a topic which finally made it into the mainstream lately and is climaxing right now.
Associated Press said:[...] On Saturday, Biden called to apologize to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the White House said.
"The vice president apologized for any implication that Turkey or other allies and partners in the region had intentionally supplied or facilitated the growth of ISIL or other violent extremists in Syria," the White House said, using an acronym for the Islamic State group.

Associated Press said:Sunnis, who form the country's majority faith group, form Assad's chief power base, even as the rebellion is dominated by Sunnis. Minorities, like the Alawites, Shiites and Christians, mostly support the government or have remained neutral.
Associated Press said:Syria's army represents the sectarian makeup of the country: it is largely Sunni Muslim, fighting mostly Sunni Muslim rebels.
