Sylvia Browne is coming to my hood next month.

http://www.powerwithin.com/4105/event_calendar_details.asp?event_id=10

Tickets range from $59 to $199 for a 2.5 hour show. You are not gauranteed a reading even with the expensive ticket. They are going to draw random ticket stubs or so they say.

Any ideas on how I can rain on the parade? I wont be able to get inside this time I just cant afford that right now. It's at the same place I BOO'd Ernest Angley http://www.lfplc.net/crusade.htm. I can stand ouside the door and pass out leaflets if somebody can make up a good one, maybe listing all her wrong predictions or some of the outrageous bigfoot/alien stuff. Im looking for some ideas more creative than just pamphletting the victims.

If someone wants to donate the ticket I will BOO her down during a reading and record it like I did at the miracle crusade. It might not be the most professional thing to do but come on you know you want to hear Sylvia get served.

If you want to help and are going to be in the area let me know. As far as I know I am the only one on here in Indiana. Any suggestions are welcome. If you want to help by making up a quality pamphlet I could use the help.

If you want to donate a buck to the BOO Sylvia Fund you can paypal it to kyle@lfplc.net

If I can collect enough donations I will get front row and really lay it on her. All recordings will be posted online for public download just like the Ernest Angley BOO. I have more experience so it should be better this time.

I dont expect to really change any minds but it will make me feel good and who dosent want to hear the old bag get it. But then again maybe it does help the sheep mentality when one of the herd breaks ranks and calls BS. I doubt she has ever been BOO'd during a lecture I wonder how she would react hmmm.

Rather than BOO'ing her, it would be MUCH more effective to be a "subject" and say "NO, you're wrong!" to each and every one of her "guesses". I don't think a public BOO'ing enahnces your reputation, and it will probably get you on some "blacklist" for the venue too.

Big deal I will just get escorted out again at the most. The problem is getting on stage she will only do a few readings and I suspect some of them are plants.

See if you can find an old copy of the indictment against her (I think it was 1992 she was found guilty of tax evasion or fraud or something). Hand those out at the door.

Southern Indiana here. Louisville metro, really.

Can't make it up there and doubt it's really worthwhile, but I'd go the leaflet route, but be prepared for anygry fans and possibly security guys who try to get you off property.

As far as the leaflet itself, I'd keep it simple and with bullet points. Don't go all wonky colors and weird fonts like woo woo web sites do.

Something like:

DID YOU KNOW: Sylvia Browne was convicted of ..... and ..... in .... ? Check this website for details.

DID YOU KNOW: Sylvia Browne predicted these things for 2005 which have not come true? (List websites)
1.---
2.---
3.---

DID YOU KNOW: Sylvia Browne removes failed predictions from her website, but they are stored at ---

DID YOU KNOW: Both the FBI and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children say that there are exactly zero cases in which a "psychic" has helped recover a child or solve a crime? (List websites)

DID YOU KNOW: Everything that Sylvia Browne does in her readings has been replicated by magicians and mentalists? (List websites)

Only factual things.

Nothing inflammatory.

No calling her a charlatan or the like.

Gee... I was posting in a thread about porn and then I read "Sylvia going down". I jumped in!

Anyway, I second Garrette in handing actual facts - something well designed so its easy to grasp. Perhaps some local stations would be interested in having a copy of that pamphlet, in case they get a chance to interview her.

ETA: most surely a newspaper will try to interview - if you can get to the reporter, that would be a blast.

Have fun!

In MY opinion...

You should rally about a dozen or so people to stand outside of the building and protest Sylvia Browne.

You should hold picket signs and shout "Sylvia brown is a clown!" over and over and shout out about how she's a fraudster and bring up her criminal record.

Remember,The more people the better.

The problem is...There aren't enough skeptics in the country for this to work well enough.

Been there done that got the shirt. I have no fear of confronting these bozo's anymore.
Then it's a shame I won't be there. We'd get along during this.

I tried contacting all the local papers and stations when Ernest Angley came to town. None of them responded at all. They are more interested in Nick and Jessica breaking up than any actual news. One of the local stations just did a piece on pet accupuncture and kissed the woo's butt the whole time.

If they do interview her it will be a fluff piece just like Montel does. We dont have a single reporter with a backbone in this town.

I will have fun though.

The main problem I see with the pamphlets is that I would be handing them out to people that have already paid big money to see her. Im just one man and cant pass out that many, people passing out literature downtown tend to get the eyes down walk fast treatment.

I need a more creative approach than random here take this style solicitation.

If anybody can dig these papers up for me you are my new best friend. I dont think just a story that she can deny would do I need the court documents.

Bummer. I so much wanted this thread be about the law catching up with Sylvia & her scams.

Of course "Sylvia Brown going down" could also have been about..................no---that's a thought too horrible for the mind to contemplate.

One of the interesting things I learned about protests or demonstrations is how YOU appear to the masses while you are engaged in your activities.

As an example:

Many years ago, here in Oz, Tasmania to be specific, there were major protests against the building of a dam in a wilderness area. A worthy protest in my opinion. Unfortunately much of the media coverage, trying to get headlines and sell more advertising naturally, depicted all the protestors as nothing more than "dirty, drug crazed hippies and mindless tree huggers". This tended to detract from the important message they were trying to get across and reduce the effect of their message.

I would suggest that, rather than doing things that will make audience, (and you certainly need to know who your audience are going to be), think you're some kind of whacko, you would probably be more effective if you acted in what THEY considered a reasonable manner and handed out the sort of pamphlets as described by Garette.

Having said all that, if you want to make a big scene, go for it, should be fun to watch. :)

The only thing I can suggest, AH, is if you can afford to buy ad space, place an ad in the paper telling the truth about SB. A quarter page ad, listing all the stuff Garrette suggested, would do far more damage to Sylvia than booing her, or passing out leaflets. It just might provoke those "reporters" at your local paper to start taking a look at something more than why Nick and Jessica have split.

Geez, does anyone really care about Nick and Jessica, for that matter?

Depends. Will the headline be Jessica Simpson Going Down...?

But I like the newspaper idea.

Who the hell are Nick & Jessica?
This just shows how backwards Aussielanders are. It's a wonder Keith Urban made it out alive.

Listen closely, child:

Jessica Simpson is a young and beautiful pop singer who is famous because her dad publicized her greatly and she has a modicum of talent. She is beautiful because she has a modicum of looks, more than a modicum of chest, lots of zit medicine, the right doctors, and great wardrobe assistants.

Nick is her (soon to be ex) husband who is famous and talented because he is married to someone famous and beautiful.

I bet you waste your time reading science crap and stuff, don't you?

Not trying to dis you, but I don't think this is an effective way to go about it at all. Standing with signs and chanting slogans makes me think "these people need to get a job." Most people don't take that stuff seriously. I don't think that protesting outside the event is going to get you anywhere. In my opinion, get inside and see if you can get a public reading, then embarrass the hell out of her and as you are being led off say "this is the fakest thing I've ever seen in my life." as if you just figured that out.

How come we never see a daytime talkshow with the topic of "People Whose Lives Were Ruined By Psychics?"

Anyway, call me cynical, but I just don't think that anything anyone can do at that event is going to change minds. Maybe one or two, but I guess I'm grumpy enough to think that that kind of result isn't even worth my time, especially when if they were reasonable enough to listen and change their mind, they probably would have gotten there without me disrupting Sylvia's little lovefest.
