Suddenly, A Flat Earther Appears!

So someone believes in FE and YEC?

Well that's Stupid2 right there!

90% of FEs are also YECs.

and here, an answer from a Flat Earther on Youtube (directed towards me) that sums up all the reason for their ignorance:

"the reason for the flat earth cover up, is that It proves god. They want you to believe you came from nothing and aren't important. Without the globe lie you can't have evolution, dinosaurs, cavemen, space etc.....all of that **** depends on the globe lie.
Genesis 1:7
Job 37:18
Rev 6:13
Psalms 104:5 they prove flat earth. And wether you believe in god or not is irrelevant, he exists. You may also not believe in the devil, who also exists, but the elites do, and nasa is their creation. They perform rituals right in front of your eyes disguised as things like 'half time shows' or 'awards ceremonies'
It's simple, globe lie=satanic worship flat earth=god.
The people who you mention, amateur astronomers etc. They're what's known as useful idiots, and want to believe the lie so bad they fool themselves.
Lol they've got you hook line and sinker, huh little guy? Keep believing everything they tell you, space cadet, I'm sure you'll reach Mars someday lol "

So, you are incapable of conceiving of a pressure gradient.

Na, I think I got it.

Consider the ocean as a system: How can it be that the pressure at the surface matches atmospheric pressure...

Well...and I'm just 'Spit-Balling' here, maybe because the atmosphere is sitting on top of it?

...yet just 10 metres down the pressure has doubled?

Really?? And what does this have to do with a Vacuum attached to a Non-Vacuum, per adventure?

Is the 1-10 meters down --- a VACUUM?

Have you ever heard of a False Comparison Fallacy?

If the pressure is so high down there why doesn't increasing entropy just make it equalise?

It most assuredly attempts to do that very thing. First, you might want to attempt to differentiate between GASES and liquids.

2nd: learn what a Vacuum actually is.

3rd: you may want to look into 'Ocean Currents' --- Pressure Gradients, Temperature, ect.
This is well beyond the scope of the discussion and quite irrelevant to my point.

Consider meditating on this for a while...

"Gas expansion into a vacuum, mixing of ideal gases or liquids, diffusion, effusion, colligative effects, and osmosis each fundamentally involves an increase in entropy due to increased dispersion of energy (with no change in total energy in the case of ideal substances) due to a greater number of microstates for the particular system involved."

Is it possible there is some force acting on the water and keeping it there?

Yes, it's called Density. And you may want to factor in the quintessential attribute of liquids, i.e. always conforming to their container.

A force which somehow overcomes entropy.

“There is thus no justification for the view, often glibly repeated, that the Second Law of Thermodynamics is only statistically true, in the sense that microscopic violations repeatedly occur, but never violations of any serious magnitude. On the contrary, no evidence has ever been presented that the Second Law breaks down under any circumstances.”
A.B. Pippard, Elements of Chemical Thermodynamics for Advanced Students of Physics (1966), p. 100.

Some strange phenomenon whose effect is as if there were an attractive force acting between masses perhaps.

Like what, for instance...?

That would be consistent with observation.

Observations aren't TESTS.

And what about the weight of air?

Atmospheric Pressure increases the closer you are to the Earth's Surface.

Why don't you stop these juvenile baby steps and step into that Dark mind-numbing Alley that 'Jack by the edge' has just stumbled into and take your Fallacious Shellacking as he just did and get it over with ? ;)

Ergo, it decreases as it gets farther from the earth, until the vacuum of space and the atmospheric pressure are equal(roughly). Your mistake is assuming the pressure at the edge of the atmosphere is the same as at the surface of the planet. If this were the case you would have a point but it isn't.

You could begin evincing regards by getting names right.

Ooh, so close. When does it suddenly stop being atmosphere and become vacuum? Hint: it doesn't. It's a pressure gradient.

Oh, you're so wrong, and I should know: I've never been a sniper either so I'm eminently qualified to take this question.

Your hint is foolish and erroneous! Five of my mallards just died from shock at your statement.

Take a permanent marker and write this on your elbow, to ensure that your drool doesn't obscure this wisdom:

It becomes vacuum *because* there's no air! If there was air it would be atmosphere. Show me the experiment that proves the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics doesn't affect the sunrise!

It becomes vacuum *because* there's no air! If there was air it would be atmosphere.

Well put! I was looking at it wrong. The pressure decreases but that isn't the reason for the "edge". It is the lack of matter.

Does that sound correct?

Give or take a few miles. Sounds about right.

Excellent. So when it is 2,500 miles up at Zenith it is setting 6,000 miles away.

Can you explain to me what angle will be formed on a flat earth with those two parameters? Because it should be going over the horizon in one place not 22.6 degrees

Sunset's?? Thanks for reminding me...

It's the simple things that resonate the loudest, eh?

Sure is. Explain why there is a sunset in the first place without the Sun getting smaller and disappearing. It's almost as though it disappears over the curve:boxedin:

Read this, particularly the last section:

Whilst you are here, explain and defend why the Moon phases invert in the Southern hemisphere.

Atmospheric Pressure increases the closer you are to the Earth's Surface.

As with the ocean, so with the atmosphere. How very unlike a false analogy. And of course the force which causes this effect is not 'density' since density is not a force.

While your bluster is aamusing, your approach (seeking internal inconsistency in high school physics) is doomed since the only flaws you will find are in your own understanding.

Take that rail gun, firing over the horizon at Mach 7 - even if we assume the projectile doesn't slow at all, it'll still have a flight time of 80 seconds to reach a target 125 miles away. If you fired a gun horizontally, how far would the shell drop in 80 seconds?

Again, why do you think you're winning?

You're talking about shellacking people but you aren't even part of the conversation. You're sitting at the kid' table.

Gravity doesn't exist (or something) so it'll take however long Daniel needs it to take to go 'I win!'...

Sorry, he's got to be a troll. No one can be that much of a numpty to know that atmospheric pressure increases the closer you get to the surface and to be singularly incapable of extrapolating that backwards to it decreasing the further away you go.

Sure, it's just a game, but so far it's moderately entertaining. As usual with flat-earthery it has echoes of Monty Python's cheese shop sketch; Daniel has to try to defend his untenable position without getting cornered into claiming up is down. He's playing it as safe as he can by copping out on describing the shape of his imaginary world, other than that it's flat.
