Split Thread Students should be punished for protesting

You argue that protesting with violence is unnecessary because we "evolved". I point out that protesting with violence is alive and well, thriving even. Same as it ever was.
Violent protest is only justified when non-violent means of change have been exhausted.

Otherwise they're just angry, ignorant thugs who want to kick ass cuz they lazy ignorant thugs.

Sometimes, not always. Violence can be a perfectly acceptable first course of action, depending on the severity. A cop murders a black man on the street, and you can skip the cardboard feel-good walk-a-thon and cut to the chase.

But you're not arguing, just repeating yourself. I caught it the first few repetitions.

Vigilante justice is illegal and immoral

Only ignorant, malcontent thugs engage in such crap.

People who have a sense of decency and morality do not ennage in that.

January 6er logic.

Great! That’s how freedom works

I think it has to depend on what's being protested. A student protesting the laws against sex with minors should probably be criticized, if not punished. Likewise a student who protests mixed-race campuses.

Actually, come to think of it, student protestors - like any other kind of protestor - should always be subject to criticism, by anyone who disagrees with them. That is how freedom works.

I strongly disagree. Peaceful, non-violent protest that is merely offensive is protected free speech. Courts are clear about this.

I am talking about punishment. Not criticism. Criticize all you like to your hearts content.
My bad. I went back and re-read this:

No student is being punished or even criticized for protesting.
I thought you said no student should be criticized. Now I realize I misread it. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

Yes, how dare students protest in a way that might be noticed.
First of all they should
tow the government line and secondly, IF they protest they should only do so by appointment somewhere out of the way where they don't bother other people. (and still be removed from the university of course)

<ahem>

"Toe the line."

i.e. follow the rules, do what you're told.

"Stand behind the yellow line, toe the line."
"Sprinters, toe the line."

It's probably not the true origin of the term, but the guides at Bodmin Jail claim the expression came from the chalk line on the gallows trap in the execution chamber that the condemned would be guided to before their legs were strapped and the lever pulled. To be honest it's such a common thing to align people behind a line on the ground was probably used literally in thousands of contexts before the metaphor became established.

and before that it was actually toe the lime, which was a reference to when people juiced fruit with their feet
