Student allowed to bring religious knife to class

There was a case locally of a kid getting suspended for wearing a traditional Scottish knife as part of a full Scottish outfit.
To a dance.
A suspension which could have been avoided if he obtained permission first.

In the OP article, they say the TSA doesn't allow them on airplanes. So how do Sikhs manage that?

The method by which a Sikh man can successfully hide his Kirpan from the TSA cannot, unfortunately, be entrusted to a Sikh child until, of course, he has shown that he can, shall we say, properly traverse certain Sikh rites of passage.

...eh, but our children haven't really proved to be much help in a fight, anyway.

:p

P.S. Marplots, it's me! I finally joined. We once CHATTED (hint, hint) elsewhere about your screen name and the JREF forum.

Referring to the kirpan as a weapon is like referring to the crucifix as a torture device. Technically true, but misleading as to its purpose.

Then quite obviously you need to have a little talk with the TSA, don't you?

ETA:

I would have said "we" and "we," but I'm kind of lazy.

Anyway, for those who might be interested, here is where you can bid on some of the cool stuff that the TSA confiscates and which is up for auction. There seems to be lots of knives sold by the pound, 14 and 15 pound lots to be more exact. ...but there are lots of rings and other jewelry, too!

There is also a video here showing some of the same booty in the warehouse:
