StopSylvia email: "Hummmmmm"

I vote for your own sub-forum!

Actually, this was first suggested back in the StopKaz days, and again during the height of the StopSylvia days. I would be all for it, as it would make it easier for me to keep track of my threads, and would keep the SSB threads away from the eyes of those who are annoyed by them.

I don't think I ever asked the mods to do this, as it seemed a bit egocentric.

(or, slightly more seriously, maybe a sub-forum for scepticism projects from forum-members?)

Not a bad idea, actually!

Yes, something I hope to add some day.

I'm still reading 2 days behind here, so don't know if someone mentioned it: Use Google. 'Frinstance:

rosanna site:stopsylvia.com

First hit is email_rosannamontage.shtml.

Why bother making your own search engine when Google crawls and indexes it constantly?

Yup. What I had hoped to do, at least as a stop-gap method, was to prompt for a search string and feed it to the "search within a domain" feature of Google. If the site was in a database, a custom-written search feature would allow for the results to be shown in a format more in keeping with the rest of the site. More importantly, putting the articles list in a database would allow for sorting the list in various ways (by topic, by date published (ascending or descending) and more. And a custom search feature would have the advantage of recognize changes to the site instantly, not having to wait for Google to reindex.

Because, as Robert said, it's updated instantly plus it's better to have a search engine on the actual page you're on, rather than having to navigate to a separate page in order to search.

Yes, I agree - if you're planning on revamping the whole site, it makes sense to incorporate the search engine as part of that and keep the output uniform. I was thinking along the lines of your stop-gap method with an embedded Google search box with the option to search on the site only. But now that I looked into that, I see that it is not a free option. I also saw that Rasmus suggested the custom Google search, which seems even more appropriate if you were to go that route.

I am often taken aback by how quickly Google search results are updated - usually when searching for something someone posted in these forums that day, only to get that very post as the first (and sometimes, only) hit! That said, I doubt there's any control over how often your site is crawled; it is most likely a function of how often the site is updated.

I suppose I should add something here to actually be on topic of the sites' content: Simply awesome. :)

Yes, as one of many parameters. A big, important site will be updated more closely to it's actual update-cycle than a small, obscure site.

Agreed. Though my suggested method would still be useful to Robert to accurately direct people to specific pages, rather than relying "on memory." (Which, in my case at least, is definitely not what it used to be!) :D

Last I heard, she was in hospital from her heart attack, and that some of her scheduled appearances had been cancelled. I doubt she is doing any of her phone readings now, but I really don't know.

So she is pretty much 95 percent stopped. Am I in the ballpark on that?

Don't know that I'd put a percentge on it. Even if she dies from the heart attack, I imagine that she already has a few books pending publication (and that whoever writes her books will keep cranking them out even after she's gone, marketing them as posthumously-written, possibly. It would not even surprise me if her son Chris cranks one or more out as co-written with his Mom, who contacted him from "The Other Side".

Regardless of any of this, I intend to leave StopSylvia up and running.

Keep in mind that L. Ron Hubbard was 100% stopped.

Scary thought.

Browne's organization is miniscule next to his, though. I think hers has always been more of a personality cult surrounding Sylvia herself - her lectures, her readings. For example, years ago when she started alternating doing the Sunday services with her ministers, hardly anybody attended on the Sundays she herself wasn't there.

Still there is a chance Chris or the grand-daughter could manage to carry on.

If that was to happen would her books be able to sell as good as she was alive?
Chris isn't as big as her mother, so I doubt whatever books he write will fo well.
