Some Trump electors voting illegally

While there appeared to be some irregularities, I can't see that they would have changed the final result had they been done correctly. I wouldn't be surprised if we were to look back at past elections, that we would find many of the same issues.

While it's not the answer they want, I'd say that the best line is to censure those that actually voted illegally, but keep the result since it would have been the same had all votes been legally done. There certainly doesn't appear to be illegality due to malice here, just incompetence.

nope. Just the US has so hobbled it's own agency that it is unable to do basic things

I'm not convinced that NASA should be in the business of doing basic things. If it's a basic task, then NASA should turn it over to commodity service providers, and focus on what I think is its core business: Stimulating advances in the state of the art in aerospace sciences, by setting challenging goals and subsidizing the R&D risk of attempting to meet those goals.

Taxi rides to LEO are probably the least significant thing NASA could be focusing on right now.

Can you name a single elector who voted illegally?

Well, there is indeed a major point here. The single worst candidate in U.S. history has been elected. The single worst candidate. That's a considerable concern, and no I don't think it's a matter of mere opinion. Donald J. Trump is obviously the single worst candidate we have ever seen. Far wost than Hillary. He is a terrible, ignorant, stupid person.

This is honestly a plain statement of fact. Were you a decent conservative, you would agree. If, on the other hand, you are either an unprincipled person or on easily persuaded by a curiously popular *******, then you might disagree.

No decent conservative supports Trump.

No true Scotsman eh?

Even if the electoral college votes were invalidated and it went to Congress....

The Republicans in Congress would never, ever vote for anyone but one of their own. The Republican party is strongly invested in the idea that the U.S. is a Republic, not a direct democracy. The popular vote in meaningless to them.

Party unity means more to them than ever. The Republican party that cooperated with the Watergate investigation is long dead. They will never, ever seriously investigate one of their own. We are stuck with the Don.

Thank you for a non-bitchy response to my question. As I said up front, I would not care if it was another Republican besides Trump. In fact, I think Powell would be infinitely preferable to Trump and Hillary. But it would seem the GOP would rather kill and sink the country than help prevent the inevitable disaster that is looming under their banner.

There were a number of people listed in the article. But why does it matter if I can or not? Do you not believe that if they actually did vote illegally that they shouldn't be censured? Do you think that people should be free to violate the law with no repercussions?

What an amazingly ignorant and self-serving comment

Looks to me that it depends on whether or not the elector is bound to vote for the candidate who won the popular vote in Florida. The FL Supreme Court has ruled that an office requires a delegation of sovereign authority. If the elector is bound to vote in a certain way, then there is no such delegation. At least in my opinion.

I think my view is strengthened by the additional requirement that an office must "... embrace[] the idea of tenure, duration, and duties in exercising some portion of the sovereign power ..."

There is no tenure or duration for electors. They are elected to do one thing, and then they're gone.

Agreed. I think it is out of character for him actually. I worry that Trump might really be having a negative psychological effect on his detractors. At least it no longer stimulates me in the same way it used to.

nope. Just the US has so hobbled it's own agency that it is unable to do basic things and must rent space from the russians. They must beg. Am I wrong? Perhaps. Maybe there is an actual; US spacecraft vaguely capable. Surely, there must be? Right? Wrong. there is no US craft currently remotely able to get anyone to the ISS. Thus the US must beg to rent a soyuz seat. I did not do that. I do not like that. I am not happy about that. You americans did that all on your lonesome.

Wow, we're losing the race to be able to boost large payloads to low earth orbit for the cheapest price. What are we going to do??

Ever hear about comparative advantage? Here's a link.

True, a number of people were listed in the article. Not a single one of them voted illegally.

The point is no one voted illegally. Name someone who voted illegally and include your evidence to support your claim. If your claim can be substantiated, then we can talk about censuring. Okay?

This thread is based on the false premise that electors voted illegally. Put on your skeptic cap and give it a thought.

Can you clarify? I'm not sure the differentiation you are making about their eligibility and legality.

I'll say it again. All electors were constitutionally eligible and all voted legally. I can't be more clear than that.

You can do much better by actually making a counterpoint to the article. I cannot tell if you are saying what they describe would not constitute an illegal vote or that what they describe would count, but that did not occur.

The quote from the article in the opening post of this thread says some electors were ineligible based on criteria not found in the Constitution.

Point/Counterpoint

You continue to leave your point underdeveloped. Are you saying state laws cannot Constitutionally restrict elector qualifications to a greater extent than the Constitution?
