Some Trump electors voting illegally

I didn't say they were members of the house. Senators do not participate in the daily duties of the house, but they hold office.

How is house member an office under the constitution but an elector is not an office? What is different between the two that matters?

The difference is one is a House member (office holder) and the other is an elector (OfficeDepot shopper).

The EC is NEVER going to go away The only thing that could actually happen is that more States might go to proportional distribution of Electors, as opposed to winner take all.

What smaller State is going to vote to allow major urban centers in CA and NY decide a Presidential election? The answer is none.

Small states can't stop NPVIC.

But speaking of Donald Trump and sore winners, "you guys" need to expect that the extra electoral powers of small states will come under fire after they have made such a spectacularly bad use of it.

Researchers claim that more than 50 Trump electors are not legally entitled to vote in the Electoral College because they either hold other offices or they do not live in the district they represent:

But I guess this isn't what the Repubs mean when they rail against election fraud.

Oh, poor Salon. You're still in the bargaining phase of grief. You'll feel better when you get to acceptance.

Electors are not office holders, anywhere. They are chosen by their parties....
Obviously you are wrong, or why would such a no-dual-office even be a req?

I'm all for more scandals, one, because maybe people will wake up and dump the EC system. And two, because it causes Trump to show his egotistical pettiness, something the news media is actually beginning to say out loud.

Sorry bob, your are stuck with lame duck trump. Being outside the US there is nothing I can do about, or even give a damn. You borked your country. Live with it. Stand by for episode 1 of "I'm a President, get me out of here".

All of us non-USians are aghast that you would elect an idiot as president. Most USians agree. It is no different than the UK appointing a buffoon as foreign secretary.

The tragedy is that the US could have been great, but has chosen to be mediocre, trash TV populist bollocks.

One might as well consider "Keeping up with the useless Kardashians" as news. Who remotely cares?

So how about the ISS? Why does the US not care? Why must the US rent seats from the russians?

They don't care about it.

If that is the US priority, so be it. The simple fact is that the US has now lost any space race, pure and simple. Once the US was the creme de
la creme. Now it is a backwater.

This is a depressing notion.

Call me when the US has a viable means of reaching the ISS at least. The russians pretty much do it at will and have done so for decades. Yanks cannot. Why? The interference of politics.

...who lost the Electoral College vote. But I believe we are discussing the situation that the Electoral College process was somehow invalidated. Ergo that particular vote is no longer relevant to the discussion.

From there, Congress gets into the act, and gets to choose from the current slate of candidates. But they are not constricted by the Electoral College process because they are not that body. I don't know the process, so I asked the question: Would not the most obvious and logical solution be to look at the popular vote counts from the presidential election that they all just contested and choose the most popular? An easy and simple decision that can be easily justified to anyone and history...something all legislative bodies dearly like?

Even if the electoral college votes were invalidated and it went to Congress....

The Republicans in Congress would never, ever vote for anyone but one of their own. The Republican party is strongly invested in the idea that the U.S. is a Republic, not a direct democracy. The popular vote in meaningless to them.

Party unity means more to them than ever. The Republican party that cooperated with the Watergate investigation is long dead. They will never, ever seriously investigate one of their own. We are stuck with the Don.

I must admit I don't understand the entire US Election process :(

BUT? .. This makes it sound like the voters do not have the last say who is president ... after all this and months of compaining and recounting votes ... a separate body of politicians actually votes for the president??

And can technicallly over turn the election process?

Tell me this is not true!

I can't tell if you are serious. You basically described the process but sounding like a total concern troll.

Check out the list of electoral votes. Spotted Eagle got a vote.

If you have been paying attention, I supported neither major candidate.

What is the criteria for being an office holder, and why is elector not it?
It does seem none here will be able to answer your question to your level of satisfaction.

I have an idea. Why not send a quick email to the Secretary of the Senate and/or the House of Representatives and ask them your question? If you don't like their answer, you are free to send your question to any person in authority who may be able to answer it. I bet you could have an answer by 6 o'clock this evening. When you get your answer, will you please report the results here?

Of course, you will not do this. In reality, the only answer you will be satisfied with is the one that says, "Electoral College Members are office holders," which is false, although you do not want to acknowledge it.

I predict you will look no further than the members of this board for your answer.

No one here? No one has presented an argument other than one person pointing out that they often do not receive compensation. I have changed my mind many times on this forum. But someone has to actually present an argument.

Im not trolling ... just curious .. the wiki article was bit verbose for the time I have right now.. I don't know what spotted eagle means

So seriously ... previously elected politicians actually decide who is president? ... NOT the voters?

Why have an election at all then?? :(

How are electors different from house members? why is one an office but the other is not?

If you were truly the pedant you claim to be (and act as), then you would know that to be an office holder you literally need an office where you can fulfill the obligations of your office. I doubt that electors are given an office. Maybe some of them have one at home, like I do.
