You said that it was "organised and promoted by Democrats". Having a woman in the crowd wearing an Obama t-shirt is not the same thing. I'm sure you know that.

The Socialists were pretty obviously a small group. You can clearly make out a limited number of distinct voices. Big crowds get homogenized in recordings.

In all, the liberal rally drew a crowd that looked a lot more like America. Not as monochromatic as Beck's mob.

(Nor as threatening as the teabaggers with their Gadsden flags and hardware on their hips.)

Just wondering. Is the socialist party to socialism as constitution party is to constitution? (ie, let's not think the name actually describes the party)

i noticed it, because it was so funny to see, she looked totally confused to me, having a dems t-shirt on but holding a sign that says

"Neither capitalist party (dems or reps) stand for working people."

you silly attempt is just laughable. Why do try to smear the socialists name with a connection to Obama?

You silly foreigners. We only have two politically relevant parties here. Democrats and Republicans. This dichotomy allows the word liberal to describe anything that is not 'conservative' and Republican, what ever that happens to be. I really have hard time pinning it down. So in the very big tent of liberals, socialists have a little table too. They don't have much going for them in the government or the tent, but neither do the greens or libertarians for that matter. And libertarians are really just there for the free pot.

Similarly there are bunch of other parties like the constitution party, and the non-party tea party, that all try to fit inside the little conservative tent. But appear to be running out of room all the time.

So it's a bit different than in europe. What in europe might be considered right-left, is here just liberal or conservative. We don't have the political pluralism that you enjoy.

This raises an interesting point. At any right-wing website, you will this sort of sentiment being widely expressed every single time there is a major political rally on either side: that a major difference between "liberal" and "conservative" rallies is that the conservatives are always full of kind, peaceful, neat and tidy crowds of people, as opposed to the liberal rallies, which leave their sites looking like a post-apocalyptic wasteland. This is of course all the more astonishing considering the fact that conservative rallies attract orders of magnitude more attendees (again, according to posters at right-wing message boards). You'll usually see a single photo of each kind of rally offered as evidence - a bright, sunny, green field labeled "Conservative Rally X" and a dim, cloudy, barren, trash-filled piece of land labeled "Liberal Rally Y". It's clear from a lot of the posts at these sites that many people truly believe that this extreme, almost cartoonish view is an accurate description of the difference between the two rallies. I'm curious if anyone can point to the source of this meme, since the situation can't possibly be as imbalanced as I've presented it.

This is actually the first I've heard of it (I googled it after Skeptic's post), but youtube has lots of videos of the trash from the One Nation rally.







It's of course impossible to verify if the videos of spotless areas really were taken after the tea party rally were really taken immediately after the event, but we do know that One Nation left a lot of trash behind.
